I’ve thought of this holiday as a day to give thanks. Sure in elementary school in the 70s we were taught about the pilgrims and the natives. But among your family and friends do you really celebrate pilgrims and natives or do you hold a special gathering of friends and family to enjoy good food, time together, and whatever family traditions you hold on this day?

Family feast and prayer. Sometimes drink and football. Skins vs patriots count?

Thank you. Now let’s see if certain members will read this and get off the pilgrims and natives argument.

The whole “first thanksgiving” event probably never happened. The whole account sounds like a “founding myth,” like the tale of Romulus and Remus.

Thanksgiving day is nothing special to me.
I give thanks to the Lord each and every day, so every day is thanksgiving to me.
I suppose if I were a hypocrite, like many, I would seek one day out of the year to give thanks, in the hope that the almighty were listening.

I am glad Allah has blessed you with the fruits of other people’s labor.

To me it's a holiday to enjoy turkey with family and be thankful to live in a relatively free society with high amounts of checks and balances. Post covid this nation has gone into the sewer to a degree but not if you turn off your screen and move into the great plains.

It brings back nostalgic feelings of having celebrated it at a child.

Same thing here. I think most people aren't concentrating on what might have happened in the past, good or bad, but our thankfulness of what we have in the present, and that, to me, includes EVERYONE. I'm happy and thankful for everyone enjoying happiness, and my biggest hope is always for that.

Yes, I'm a saint.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because there's no gift giving, no "Easter bunnies" leaving candy, no silly costumes... just good food and fellowship with friends and family.

What Thanksgiving is to me. I thank God every day.

Psalm 100
1Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
