I'd never own an AR. I want a Main battle rifle when my life is on the line.

IMHO, the M14 was a much better rifle than the M16. I used both in combat.

The government never wants the people to be as powerful as they are. Ban everything and submit.

I don't believe that this will change hard liner's opinions, but please take a few minutes to read
There's a typo here;

"The firearms industry has countered by more accurately describing those firearms as “modern a̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ ̶rifles.”
Should read "modern sporting rifles" (MSR).

The first time I ever saw and fired an AR-15 was a government issued weapon in the military and I was promptly trained to kill with it. It was designed for the military for use in combat. Split hairs on what you want to call it all day long. Call it a pea shooter if you want. Its made to kill people in combat.

Just adding some context.

The notion that one can add a simple part or file something down and turn an AR-15 into an M-16/M-4 is nonsense.

That's another point. No one going into battle would pick an AR-15 over an M-16/M-4 or a legit AK etc.
