Had I included those objects, then the next logical argument would be that they are only referring to items who primary purpose is to be a weapon to qualify as an "assault weapon". Excuse me, it's time for me to go practice on my "ghost" (i.e. non serialized) assault nun chucks.

For crying out loud, the 5.56 M-16 (the full auto version of the AR-15) was chosen by the military in part because it was less powerful than the .308/7.62 M-14 and the older .30-06 M1 that had been in use and was easier to handle (plus they could carry more ammo)
IMHO, the M14 was a much better rifle than the M16. I used both in combat.

Should read "modern sporting rifles" (MSR).
The first time I ever saw and fired an AR-15 was a government issued weapon in the military and I was promptly trained to kill with it. It was designed for the military for use in combat. Split hairs on what you want to call it all day long. Call it a pea shooter if you want. Its made to kill people in combat.
I'd never own an AR. I want a Main battle rifle when my life is on the line.
That's another point. No one going into battle would pick an AR-15 over an M-16/M-4 or a legit AK etc.
