You're trying to equate what is going on in New York (specifically) with the opinions of those on the left in the entire country? Most people of any political ideaology want criminals to do time for their crimes. I'm not sure how to make you see this as you seem to believe your side, and only your side, is right about everything.
I can't speak as to why NYC is doing what they are doing as I live a long way from there? Overcrowding prisons? Too many drug offenders going to jail? Too much workload? I don't know.
I used NY as an example, but this is happening in every liberal city...LA, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, etc

Just go to any Breitbart news articles and they joke wishing all these 'scumbags were dead' and believe strongly if anybody invaded my property it will be their dead body not realizing they'd have some 'splaining' to do in court. You don't just shoot an unarmed person just because he/she isn't where they are suppose to be.
What if the person was hurt looking for help and banged on your door for your attention? What if the women banging on your door was running from a rapist? Yes this actually has happened where a women got cut up as the person at the door was to afraid to open the door then later had to call an ambulance for the victim that was cut up by a rapist she escaped from whom followed her over. If she was allowed in right away the sexual offender would not have had his way that night. It was on a show called Panic 911.
i want the right to end its moral high ground fake stance on the war on drugs and deal with the issue as the health problem it is....that would have the crime rate in one swoop and the need from those gun crazy inner city gangs to defend turf....PS the killer rightwingers are mostly brave behind the keyboard types IMO

I watched a video about a violent criminal who killed two people. This happened in Texas around 2008. He was so dead inside, so far gone, that he wanted to die. He didn't want to live anymore. He was asking for the death penalty. He said that if he didn't get the death penalty he would kill someone in prison. He was barely 20 years old and was asking to die. He's still on death row as of 2021.
I bring this up because there are some people whom the threat of death won't stop them. The prisoner in question, James Broadnax, had basically given up on life. He didn't care if he lived or died, and was ready to kill people. And he did this in Garland, a suburb of Dallas. This wasn't the inner city. This happened outside of a Christian music studio. He went to Garland, in his own words "to rob some rich White people". This is Texas, where you can shoot someone in self defense. Apparently the threat of death meant nothing to Broadnax. There are many people who are so far gone, that nothing will deter them.
I'm sure some criminals in prison for murder want to die. Prisons are not hotels. What's your point? If they got parole they would take it. So they kill others because they want to die so We must go soft on them and find out why they are disturbed and not afraid to die? The feelings of killers are important here.

Can you put any link from Breitbart or any conservative website that pushes to kill people for knocking at your door? The laws are clear for self defense.
If anybody invaded your property that is an attack. To enter forcefully as an enemy; go into with hostile intent: or you are giving the invader the benefit of the doubt risking your own life and your family.

So If I break in your house (home invasion) to use the shower while your wife is taking a shower, it's her fault for not knowing my intentions and that I have no weapons? If you're going to criticize people for exercising their rights, you should really, really understand them, first.
Nothing you say or write about rights can be taken seriously after this.
This is my opinion as to why. There exists a mentality that the only way criminals can be dealt with is through death. The mentality is "a dead criminal won't commit crime anymore". Some people are willing to throw law and order out of the window if it means a quick and immediate end to certain social problems.
Is defending one's life against the law? I have been carrying a gun for about twenty-five years and will not hesitate to defend myself if someone pulls a gun on me or threatens me with bodily harm.
