Is this the end of progressive America? (Afghanistan, racism, free speech)

Over the past several decades, the progressive Left has successfully fulfilled Antonio Gramsci’s famed admonition of a “long march through the institutions”. In almost every Western country, its adherents now dominate the education system, media, cultural institutions, and financial behemoths.
But what do they have to show for it? Not as much as they might have expected. Rather than a Bolshevik-style assumption of power, there’s every chance this institutional triumph will not produce an enduring political victory, let alone substantially change public opinion.
Even before Biden’s botched Build Back Better initiative, American progressives faced opposition to their wildly impractical claims about achieving “zero Covid” and “zero emissions”, confronting “systemic racism” by defunding the police, regulating speech, and redefining two biological sexes into a multiplicity.
While the Pentagon’s top brass focused on “domestic terrorists” and a progressive social agenda, it calamitously bungled its withdrawal from Afghanistan and appears utterly unprepared for Chinese or Russian competitors. And the effect of this progressive march is plain to see: the percentage of Americans who feel “a great deal of trust and confidence in the military” has dropped in just three years to 45% from 70%.
The far left progressive agenda is contrary to just about everything this country was founded on. It goes against the majority of the country's core beliefs. This country is not fundamentally flawed and doesn't need to be rebuilt. We have things to work on, sure, but the lefties want a total redo, and most people here don't.
The real end goal for these people is total power, control and a communist/socialist style state with limited free speech and with no 2A rights for sure.
I could go on, but most here know the drill of what the progressive left wants.

Well said.
Progressives are just as important as Conservatives and both keep us in balance but the problem today is the Far Left Extreme Progressives seem to be dictating to the rest of us with their Woke push for equity, climate change battles CRT and so many more of their SJW schemes.
Of course on the flip side is the Far Right Conservatives which could be just as much a danger to the status quo but they seldom get any traction in DC.
It's basic common sense that "if it is not broken don't fix it" but the extreme progressives are actively trying to break it and the Biden bunch is working along with them.
Not by a long shot. Liberals are like a bad rash that never goes away. Their political fervor is, in contrast to past political movements, more like a cult than a political party and devoid of reason. Religious cults like liberalism never fade away; if and when they end, it is usually in a calamitous, abrupt finish.
Making progress is always good, but they have a perverse conception of what progress is. They think requiring tampon dispensers in all the male bathrooms is "progressive".
But there are still a lot of leftist fanatics out there who believe that they only reason we haven't achieved the liberal nirvana they always want, is because we haven't been "liberal ENOUGH". If they can just get the "right people" into office, and suppress ALL conservativism, they everything will work great.
Never mind that liberalism has never worked great.
The irony is the façade the woke left portray as being oppressed while controlling virtually all of the cultural and formal institutions of power.
The strategy is short sighted though and stops at total destruction of society in the hopes that their dystopian 'paradise' will somehow reveal itself, but only after destruction is achieved.
Kinda like Brandon's Build Back Woke bill - it has to be passed first to see what's really in it.

I agree with you about balance, but I disagree about which is the bigger danger. This forum is a good example - dominated by Far Right Extreme Conservatives.
I agree that Progressives take things too far in the name of Wokism, but I see it as mostly harmless. The far right however is threatening our democracy. If they had their way, a man who had lost the popular vote by 7 million votes, and who lost the Electoral College 306-232, would have been reinstated in office.
We'd be better off if both extreme ends of the political spectrum lost clout and the moderates in both parties worked together a bit more.

I agree, wrong word for how they actually operate.
I've heard people poke fun at it and call them "regressives" as some of the ideas under the progressive ideology like CRT / anti-racist ideas most certainly set us back. When things like skin color become deciding factors in many things, it's really not different than the old Jim Crow era really, if you think about it. Giving one group some version of "more" or whatever and another group less simply based on skin color is just racism repackaged with nicer sounding terms like diversity, inclusion, and equity.
There is just a whole litany of things I could list out but I'm feeling too lazy right now.
The point is is that if you take every progressive idea to it's logical end it doesn't lead you down a good path and has destructive tendencies.
I believe the movement is growing and not fading. Seems that it appeals to younger voters.
More and more of their candidates are being elected locally and nationally.
Other than wishful thinking, what proof is there that the progressive agenda is fading?
Many of their policies are not being implemented yet, but they seem to be getting more interest every year.
Eta: I think the far right agenda is getting less popular and the far left agenda more popular. Of course the middle is still the bulk of the electeds. The tea party is just about gone.
