On Dec. 5, 1942, Presidential Executive Order 9279 closed voluntary enlistment for all men from the ages of 18 to 37 for the duration of the war, providing protection for the nation’s home front manpower pool.
I think the USAAF Aviation Cadets where an exception for roughly 18 months as you could volunteer for that reserve training. . And that the cadets were exempted from the draft so the USAAF did not lose potential aircrew to other service needs while in the program but a cadet was put back in the draft pool if he washed out. Those who passed were then awarded a Flight Officer's warrant or Lieutenants commission and soon called to active duty. .
When Joe Biden wins again in 2024 he will push for the reopening of the draft . Joe will then give a speech about how he fought at Iwo Jima with the First Marine Division.
If a draft happens, it will not be received well. Good luck getting this generation to fight, and I don't mean that as a slight.
I'm thinking that this is when the illegals will come in. Fight for the US and they will be given instant American citizenship along with all the military benefits including housing, food and allowances. It's how my family came here to the US back in the 1930's from Europe. The men fought for the US and the women were nurses for the American/British alliances and then after the dust settled, they moved to the US with full citizenship and some money to get started (for schooling, housing and food).

Vastly different times. No immigrants are going to fight for a green card and some benefits, at least not in significant numbers. If anything you would probably see an exodus of immigrants back to their old countries rather than risk their lives. They come to the U.S to make money, not to fight in a war.

Sounds like a win either way.
