Yes, NATO did a great job protecting Nazi War criminals who burned protestors alive in Odessa. Now they will face justice.
NATO hasn't protected anyone and is not protecting Ukraine.
As for Odessa street battles first broke out several hours before the Trade Union building fire. They were sparked when a group of masked pro-Russia activists allegedly led by Sergei Dolzhenkov, a former police officer known as “Captain Kakao”, attacked a pro-Ukraine march mostly made up of football fans. The pro-Russia men were armed with clubs, fireworks, homemade grenades and guns.
So there was violence from both sides, and a lot of Ukrainians were sickened by the violence.
Again the vast majority of people in Ukraine detest the Nazi's, and they actually suffered at the hands of the Nazi's and Soviets unlike American commentators.
The Russians are not popular in Ukraine because they chose to starve over 3 million Ukrainians to death during the early 1930's, whilst Germany finds Ukraine such a sensitive subject that it won't even send anti-tank weapons along with other western countries.
The idea that the Ukraine is not a real country or that Russia is going in because of Nazi genocide is all false flag nonsense.
Putin has even stated that he will reconsider if Ukraine pledges never to join NATO or the EU, something it has failed to do, and that demonstrates the real reason Russia is invading, and in reality it's nothing to do with Nazi's or genocide.
Russia has a vast history of genocide itself, and Putin thinks nothing of killing his enemies with poison or in other cruel manners, and is not some great humanitarian.
And the new regime sanctioned burning protestors alive (Odessa) and bombed hospitals. They are no a 'sovereign' state.

Where were the human right activists? But unlike civilians in Syria, Gaza, the Congo, etc. ethnic Russians have a big bear next to them. The bear doesn't want to occupy the country, and is offering full pardon to the non-war criminals.
But NATO is telling Ukrainian soldiers to fight and die because the Russians want to occupy them, and they die so NATO can have an upper hand. Now THAT is sick.
Not all of Ukraine was bad for everybody. Not good if you speak Russian as your mother tongue. I think there was a chance for the government policies to moderate, and Putin waited. But with American support of Ukrainian nationalists, and sending them all those weapons, it made things worse for the people of DLPR.
If Ukraine has been mistreated Russian speakers for a few years now, then Western especially USA MSM has seriously been under reporting it. An omission is almost the same as a lie or however that phrase goes.

To answer OP's question, Putin's stated objective is a recreation of the former Soviet Union -- piece by piece. He is doing it while the current Brandon administration is in power.
He has done it in 2014, when he slithered into Crimea, and in 2008, when he lopped off parts of Georgia. That's how you eat an elephant, remember?
Wasnt Putin once quoted as saying anyone wishing for the old Soviet times has a lot of heart, but no brains? I think that was him. It was a famous meme for a time.

Ukraine and Russia have many more connections and similarities than differences. There are Ukrainians with Russian last names and are ethnically Russian but loyalties lie with Ukraine and vice versa in Russia. Ukrainians and Russian share a common ancestor, and that is not going back that far.

Russia will stop the ongoing shelling of civilians by Nazi battalions sent by Kiev.
The war is going to happen and the Minsk agreement is dead. Russia tried to get Ukraine to sign off, but when they tried to implement the agreement, armed Nazis rioted and killed three police officers.
This was the only solution.
