I don't believe many people realize just how many countries were invaded and taken over by Germany Italy and the Soviet Union. The dictators were after world domination. Many many countries were involved and overtaken by the invaders.

I just hope the march into Ukraine does not lead up to other invasions. We are in a different time with nuclear weapons and cyber wars to destroy nations. Take a history lesson how World War II was spreading all over the globe. It is an eye opener. Many have no idea how extensive the invasions were and how many countries were involved.

Check it out. Key dates of World War II.

I thought it only takes a dozen countries to be called a world war. This is at least 50 countries.

You forgot to mention though, in 9-11, we were attacked, but it was not from another country, (it was a radical individual). Bin Laden was not representing any nation that I know of, in his 9-11 attack...?

Afghanistan under the Taliban gave Osama bin Laden a home base on which bin Laden used to recruit, train, and deploy his terrorists.

The Geneva Convention V of 1907 is clear on this.
THE RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF NEUTRAL POWERS

Article 1. The territory of neutral Powers is inviolable.

Art. 2. Belligerents are forbidden to move troops or convoys of either munitions of war or supplies across the territory of a neutral Power.

Art. 3. Belligerents are likewise forbidden to:
(a) Erect on the territory of a neutral Power a wireless telegraphy station or other apparatus forthe purpose of communicating with belligerent forces on land or sea;

(b) Use any installation of this kind established by them before the war on the territory of a neutral Power for purely military purposes, and which has not been opened for the service of public messages.
Art. 4. Corps of combatants cannot be formed nor recruiting agencies opened on the territory of a neutral Power to assist the belligerents.

Art. 5. A neutral Power must not allow any of the acts referred to in Articles 2 to 4 to occur on its territory. It is not called upon to punish acts in violation of its neutrality unless the said acts have been committed on its own territory.

Art. 6. The responsibility of a neutral Power is not engaged by the fact of persons crossing the frontier separately to offer their services to one of the belligerents.

Art. 7. A neutral Power is not called upon to prevent the export or transport, on behalf of one or other of the belligerents, of arms, munitions of war, or, in general, of anything which can be of use to an army or a fleet.

Art. 8. A neutral Power is not called upon to forbid or restrict the use on behalf of the belligerents of telegraph or telephone cables or of wireless telegraphy apparatus belonging to it or to companies or private individuals.

Art. 9. Every measure of restriction or prohibition taken by a neutral Power in regard to the matters referred to in Articles 7 and 8 must be impartially applied by it to both belligerents. A neutral Power must see to the same obligation being observed by companies or private individuals owning telegraph or telephone cables or wireless telegraphy apparatus.

Art. 10. The fact of a neutral Power resisting, even by force, attempts to violate its neutrality cannot be regarded as a hostile act.
The relevant articles are 1 thru 5.

Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda are belligerents against the US, so Articles 2, 3, and 4 applies to Al Qaeda. And Article 5 applies to Afghanistan. But once Afghanistan, under Mullah Omar, allowed Afghanistan to be used by Al Qaeda regarding Articles 2 thru 4, then Afghanistan lost its neutrality status and the US was legally allowed to respond to Afghanistan.

Stateless actors like Al Qaeda cannot exist unless they are state sponsored. Individual actors, aka 'lone wolf', do exist and can be self motivated. But an organization like Al Qaeda cannot exist unless the organization have a home base somewhere. Is it possible to have a homegrown terror organization? Yes, but that would fall under internal law enforcement. Is it possible for a homegrown terror organization from Germany, an ally? Yes, but that would not make Germany hostile to the US. It just mean Germany was incompetent, using the word kindly, in preventing terrorist cells from living inside its territory.

Afghanistan was not a US ally. Hostile to the US but not at war against the US. But when Mullah Omar allowed Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda to use Afghanistan as home base, Afghanistan became a belligerent against the US.

LOL. That is not how it went down. The U.S. has been in the business of the Middle East decades before you were born. Woke up the sleeping giant is a WW 2 term. To say all of this mess started in what you repeat is funny.

I mean I agree on going to get Bin Laden, but they used 9/11 to advanced the imperialist ambitions of the Bush Administration.
"Imperialist ambitions"? The only people who say that about the US are typically Communist/Marxist and Socialist. Good try Comrade Troll
