Just read the book El Chapo. I was shocked to read that it cost $50 million for El Chapo's trial, out of the wallets of taxpayers?

And, now he's in a super-max prison in Florence, AZ in a 7 X 12 cell, one hour out of cell every day and how much is this costing us?

Of course, it helps keep some well-paid prison guards with job security.

And? The Sinaloa Cartel is still in business!

And I'm sure when they captured El Chapo and he said: Kill me! Of course, that wouldn't have happened, too many jobs are at stake, and so let's punish him for 20 more years, meanwhile punishing taxpayers.

He kept escaping in Mexico. We likely won't have to worry about that happening here.

Just a side-note, while there is a maximum security prison in Florence AZ, the ADX Supermax is in Florence, CO.

It should not have cost $50mil. All we accomplish is realize who else in our govt is corrupt and who they are working with outside. Just follow the paper money trail. Whoever was overpaid for whatever service product is corrupt

I guess he could bribe the Mexican prison guards with cigarettes to escape or special favor.

That’s not happening here in US prison

All the extra security measures before and during the trial were a big part of these expenses.

Still should not cost that much. Regular LEOs were used correct? How much extra are we suppose to pay regular LEOs for this assignment? We dont even have to use the same ones everyday. We can distribute the hours amongst a huge pool of LEOs. That is a wage depressing factor.

Plus were we expecting the Sinaloa to send everyone they have, and their satellite gangs, plus allies from the US barrios to attack, and steal El Chapo back?

I agree. No way it costs that to try him and keep him locked up. The United States is a very corrupt country, a trait we share with our neighbors to the south. Both nations will have to control corruption if we ever seriously plan on dealing with these cartels. Where did the 50 million go? It’s in someone’s pocket, somewhere it shouldn’t be.

We should have this whole case audited, the people deserve to know about corruption when it exists and trust must be regained by our officials. A system of good transparency, accounting and audits is the only way to weed out corruption.

Nothing changed. El Chapo probably went against what the Feds told him to do.

Another half dozen drug lords from Mexico have also been extradited, tried, and sent to prison, and overlooked is the millions that the DEA offers in bounties to arrest these drug lords.

And, after all that wastage of money, the drug cartels are still in business!
