Working in NYC, living in NJ - so getting slaughtered by taxes.
Take home of 100k after taxes in New York is about $1850 every two weeks (after 401k contribution, etc)
$3,700 / month income
($850 Rent) - cheap rent for NJ
($250 Utilities)
($525 Train pass)
($100 Subway)
($100 Car Insurance)
($100 Phone bill)
($300 lunch at work - NYC you don't brown bag as a commuter/ $15 per day)
($100 Parking) - Train parking per month
($160 Gas) - Gas for work + personal ($40 a week used to be to fill it up)
($300 groceries)
So just your needs are met you have spent $2,810 leaving you with $890 for the month.
In my case I had some expenses that aren't needs:
($450 Car Payment)
After car payment you are left with $440.. That money is used for going entertainment, going out etc.. Its a very easy way to spend all your money.
Quit repeating this lie, and read your own study. It's only about 11%.
Incorrect. I can see you didn't read the study. "Living paycheck-to-paycheck" has two basic subgroups: those who are struggling to pay their bills, and those who are not, perhaps because they can tap into savings. BOTH subgroups are living paycheck to paycheck.
48% of those earning more than $100,000 are living paycheck to paycheck and fall into either one of those two subgroups. In either case, their total annual bills equal or exceed their income.
The original poster (Informed Consent) has been lying since the start of this thread. He obviously didn't download the report in the article and just ran with the headline, something myself and Redsoxrob stated quite some time ago. And unfortunately, he continues with his misinformation and it appears the main intent of the thread was to deceive people. As anyone can clearly see by the graph in the download, only 11% of those earning $100k had difficulty (right side of the page....bar graph in orange clearly states 11.8%). Over 88% either had no problem or were comfortable (so clearly NOT living paycheck-to-paycheck). For once and for all, will you please STOP LYING!! There has been no change in this situation for years. And if you're not going to read your own source, you shouldn't be spreading any information at all about it.
Redsoxrob thank you for calling this poster out throughout this thread. There's no place for this type of dishonesty.

You're not comprehending the study. /smh
Read the title of this thread again. It says "living paycheck to paycheck."
Now, look at the image that you just posted and add 36.5% plus 11.8%, the percentages of the two groups listed as living paycheck to paycheck for those who earn more than $100,000. The total is 48.3%. You just proved that fact to everyone yourself by posting that.

JUST STOP ALREADY....you've been proven wrong and just keep doubling down on it. Anyone can see the chart and what it states. The 36.5% are not having problems paying bills and living comfortably. As most have stated, regardless of how the study wants to characterize the "self reporting", if you are living comfortably and not having problems paying bills (and clearly with savings), that is not a definition of living paycheck-to-paycheck. This whole damn thread should be closed down for misinformation.

YOU just posted the image that proves what I've been saying this entire time. 48.3% of those who earn more than $100,000 are living paycheck to paycheck.

I just explained it to you but as usual you ignore it.

Again, over 88% either had no problem or were comfortable (so clearly NOT living paycheck-to-paycheck)
And this has been the same situation for years. There is no change from 2017 like you stated (it's simply a recharacterization by the report).
I just explained it to you but as usual you ignore it.
Can you somehow not read and comprehend the information given in Figure 4 in the image you posted? What exactly are you failing to understand? According to the Figure 4 data, of those who earn more than $100,000:
48.3% are living paycheck to paycheck.
51.7% are not.
