“I honestly feel we should not play the national anthem during our season,” Griner, a six-time WNBA All-Star and the 2019 runner-up MVP, told reporters during a video conference call.
I wonder if she wishes she was hearing that national anthem right about now?
In Singapore and possibly other Asian countries, getting caught smuggling drugs into the country was an automatic death sentence. Not sure about their current policies.

That old 1960's song "I Fought The Law And The Law Won" would seem appropriate

It appears you got that snippet of a quote from Fox News. But you clipped it too soon and made it lose some of it's context. Here's more of it which I think is pretty important to what she was saying at the time.

“I honestly feel we should not play the national anthem during our season,” Griner, a six-time WNBA All-Star and the 2019 runner-up MVP, told reporters during a video conference call, according to the Arizona Republic. “I think we should take that much of a stand.
“I don't mean that in any disrespect to our country. My dad was in Vietnam and a law officer for 30 years. I wanted to be a cop before basketball. I do have pride for my country.”
The article was Published July 28, 2020 11:25am EDT according to the time stamp from Fox itself, during the George Floyd protests. In the same article, she says she will not be on the floor during the Anthem, so she wasn't planning on kneeling like Kaepernick. She said she understood playing the National Anthem at the Olympics, though because you were "playing for your country."
Wow why would any American traveling through Russian territory even give them a chance right now. I can’t think of any place to be worse than a Russian prison right now.

I saw the whole story and it changes nothing. How is one so offended from simply hearing a song that they make it such a big deal and personal red line that they refuse to come out of the dressing room until it is finished, unless they despise what it stands for? No one is being forced to sing along. What gives her the right to dictate when and when not the anthem can be played?
She does not want to hear the National Anthem played, but she wants our country to help her on the drug charge.....she can stay in Russia, and do her time....and after her release from prison, she can just stay there.....who needs her.
No one deserves prison time, especially in a Russian prison, for drugs.
Yes, she certainly does. Every single minute of it.
She thought she was special because she throws a ball through a hoop. That’s no more than a trained seal can do, and at least the seal is cute. She thought the rules don’t apply to her because she’s so special. I wonder how special she’s feeling now?
The US has no obligation to help someone involved in drug crimes. She brought this on herself.
