Good points made on this thread. Law enforcement should be held to a higher standard, just as it is if you target them.
Hope the good people of Tennessee vote the judge out, and hope he doesnt get appointed to a lucrative gig as he was previously.

If you read the entire article it looks like the victim didn't want to testify and that COVID delays caused a lot of problems.

In short, it seems like he got off light because of those factors in that without her testifying and other information that they weren't going to get a conviction.

I'm not following how this is the judges fault.

Why is this in Yahoo "entertainment". Seems like a weird location for a crime story.

Yes sounds like a plea deal was made and he accepted it. The victim had to also accept it.
From an old article.

According to prosecutors, Brian Beck began having sex with the girl back in May 2016 when she was just 14 years old. It reportedly continued until January 1, 2018...........

Indictment papers say he had parental or custodial authority over the girl, which he used to take advantage of her.
Sounds like a lot of missing information. How in the world or why did he have custodial authority over her. It could be it was not forced rape and only coerced in that he had authority over her. Not that it makes it ok.

It sounds like just about everyone has failed this girl.

It might even be a false accusation. I remember one a few years ago where a girl said she had been made a sex slave by her mother's new bf. It looked like she just didn't like the guy and made up the story, but that didn't stop prosecutors from going after the guy.

There just is not enough information to go grabbing pitch forks and lighting torches.

Ok, after further reading it looks like a plea deal was reached with prosecution. Those details are scant. leaves a bad look though, and my pitchforks needs a tuneup.

And yet other people, who are all college students who have sex with each other and the woman is drunk, end up on the registry. This case is WRONG, compared to theirs.
Hard to say without knowing the details. I wouldn't be surprised if the 14-year-old was a prostitute which is how the former deputy was using coercion to get sex which then there's a whole can of credibility problems particularly if it's been five years and there's ongoing drug use and criminal activity on the part of the accuser.

On the other hand the justice system is fubared in a lot of cases. Prosecutors and judges look after their own.
