I was horrified the other day listening to the Bill Handel show regarding the case of Ricky Blackman. His crime? Having sex at 16 years old with a girl he presumed to be 15.

It turns out, she was 13. He was convicted in the courts and ended up having to register as a sex offender.

I think this is a cautionary tale for the unintended consequences of our laws and how they are interpreted. From what I have read, Ricky's case has been reviewed and he no longer has to register as a sex offender, but his life will never be the same.

Ricky's Mom, Mary Duval, was interviewed during Bill Handel's show and it really has to be heard to gain some context into the destruction this ordeal caused Ricky and his family, but I am curious to hear other thoughts on this issue.

A link to the show can be found here KFI AM 640 THE BILL HANDEL SHOW (http://www.kfi640.com/podcast/TheBillHandelShow.xml - broken link)

It should not surprise us anymore that the U.S. is grooming sexual predators/offenders at an early age --- afterall, everywhere they turn fornication and adultery are promoted as a viable favorite pastime in conjunction with the demeaning views of women that accompany it. The 16 year old boy AND girl were sex offenders because sexual immorality before marriage is sexual deviance ... but we all knew that inherently ; its just that most of us became so desensitized to it that its now looked upon as the norm .

Americans are the most sex-crazed people in the world. Especially the ones who think sex is a terrible evil thing, and the most important thing in the world is to punish people for having sexual thoughts. The only thing they think about is how terrible sex is, and how important it is to destroy the lives of people who do not share their own opinions about sex.

Don't get hysterical. There's nothing I can do if a man has sexual thoughts about my 13-year-old daughter. I'm sure some of them do. She's tall and developed and looks older than she is. What I can punish is inappropriate sexual behavior.

But people's sexual behaviors are a reflection of their thoughts. Many people think sex is normal and natural, and at the other extreme are those I spoke of, who believe people who THINK certain things are normal and natural ought to be punished for it. It is those punishers who are unhealthily preoccupied with sex, and would do well to find another hobby.

The OP is the example that illustrates my case. Two healthy young people who thought they were doing something normal and natural, and the shrill maniacs who want to overly broaden the parameters of activity that should be punished and to raise the level of punishment to a fever pitch.

Its opinions like this that really scare me.

Some people won't be satisfied until we live in a Victorian era again, where sex is something thats locked up, and never talked about. Even though their "idea" of a Victorian sex life is completely wrong.

The United States is actually one of the most moral countries in the world. In Europe, China, and many other countries, you can watch porn on TV any time of the day, without paying extra for it. Many European countries (Austria) blow jobs aren't seen as sexual, they are just something friends do for one another. And there are lots of other countries where our sexual taboo of 13 year old girls, is just normal.

So before you go giving everyone your opinion that we are the most sexually crazed, immoral, and un Godly country in the world, you should really check into reality. The fact is, the United States is still one of the most sexually repressed, Christian moralled, and sexually ignorant countries in the world.

So, unless you want to move to a Muslim country, where womens figures are hidden behind clothing, clitoritis is removed from their bodies so they don't feel seuxal pleasure, then our "Christian" friends need to back off the holy roller thing a little bit.

After all, Muslims still marry girls off that are 12 or 13.

Memphis, you've probably noticed that 007.5 is one of the people I was talking about. When they encounter someone with whom they do not see eye-to-eye, and need to choose between tolerance and hate, they always choose hate. And follow it up with some draconian punishment. And their mentality is chiefly driven by sex, for it is the sexually "deviant" that they hate the most exquisitely and wish to punish the most papally.

Again, there are no laws against thinking whatever you like about my daughter. You can think about robbing banks or blowing up buildings or kidnapping people or anything you please. Doing those things is what's illegal. Keep your normal and natural hands off my daughter.

You think so? I read that the boy's punishment was overturned. I'm a reasonable parent and would think very carefully about what to do if a 16-year-old had sex with my daughter. What I argued with was your statement that you can be punished for sexual thoughts. You cannot.

Since when have 15 year olds been considered men?

Who's 15? Are you talking about the boy mentioned in the OP? He's 16, not 15. Jturr, the person I was talking to, is not 15.
