I know this has been beaten to death, but I am just looking for clarification on the recent California ruling about gay marriage.
Are they saying that the state must recognize gay couples who get married in their town hall, or their local church that performs the ceremony? It seems like a lot of the controversy surrounds the word "marriage" itself. Some people feel it's a religious term only, and some think it is not.
So if I were gay and I married another guy at my Presbyterian church (just to pick a random church), the state would have to recognize me as married?
