Please consider what it does to veterans who served in these conflicts when you say they are losers who left a piece of themselves on foreign soil for a mistake. WW2 vets came home to be called heroes, this is closure for the mental wounds they suffer. "You saved the world, what you had to do was necessary". Veterans of wars since never got that closure.
Ensuring successful democracy, is far outside their job description and has never been a prerequisite for victory against enemies.
