There are no fly zones all over the world. Russia has one. See how far into Russian airspace you would get in an F-15, or any other unidentified, unwanted aircraft.

In fact all nations who have a method of guarding their airspace do so, and some do so aggressively.
There are many places right here in The US where no one can fly without permission.
So what right do Russian aircraft have to enter Ukranian airspace without permission? They don't. They enter Ukranian airspace because Ukraine has no way to repel them.

It is cowardice on the part of NATO, The US and the world to allow Russia to do as they like simply because Russia threatens to launch a war - one that they would clearly lose!
All this talk of WW3 is pure nonsense. Russia has no allies. Call their bluff and put an end the Russian bullying, threats and war crimes.

You?

You?
Let's work through this.

This not Iraq or Syria. This is Russia. You declare a No Fly Zone, it means NATO (aka USA and UK) jets directly firing on Russian jets.

And then we are directly involved. And that inevitably leads to nuclear attack.

Instead-- arm the Ukrainians to the teeth. Stop babbling in public about MiGs and get them whatever they need. Send an endless stream of body bags back to Mother Russia. Every tomb stone will force a group of people to ask questions. Every casket will tell a story-- a very, very grim story.

China and India would beg to differ.

We've been over the no-fly zone, right? A no-fly zone would have to be protected by NATO. Ergo, NATO planes shooting down Russian ones. That is WWIII and the suffering you see in Ukraine would be multiplied times over in a global conflict.

Same reason why Russia / China did not implement a no-fly zone over Afghanistan while we were there for 20 years.

Because that's how you get to WWIII in a nanosecond.

The first Russian aircraft that gets shot out of the air, boom, game on.

This would be the equivalent of Russia declaring a no-fly zone over Iraq circa 2003 and then trying to enforce it by engaging American aircraft.

We might as well skip the formality and just nuke Russia. Maybe that would be more effective as we'd have an element of surprise.

NATO doesn't have the authority to declare a no-fly zone over Ukraine, because Ukraine is not part of NATO. Only Ukraine can declare it for itself, which I guess it sort of has.

If NATO goes meddling, it's going to get into a direct fight with Russia.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Russia as a weakling with no allies (China and India have been mentioned, not unreasonably). I also suspect that Russia wants a hot war with the West and is doing everything to provoke it.

Because you have to be able to enforce it. And, to enforce it means the beginning of World War 3.

From a military standpoint, a NFZ should have been implemented before the conflict even started. Patriot anti-missile platforms should have been placed at the borders, as well as other surface to air missile platforms. A large transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets from Poland to Ukraine should have also happened before the invasion.

You mean the US was not firing on Russian jets during the Korean War??? I don't remember that starting a nuclear war.
