This is a week old but I haven't seen it here: Canada's New Democratic Party - which are Canada's social democratic party - have struck a policy deal with Justin Trudeau for him to stay in power until 2025.

Great news for the folks of Canada!

Trudeau will be prime minister until 2025
Quote:
Justin Trudeau has brokered a deal with the left-leaning New Democrats that will keep his minority Liberal government in power until 2025.

The Canadian prime minister announced Tuesday a formal entente that will see the NDP vote with his Liberal minority government on shared objectives until the House of Commons rises in June 2025. Canada’s next fixed election date is Oct. 25, 2025.

“I’ve thought long and hard about this,” Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa. “It was not an easy decision. With so much instability around us, Canadians need stability.”

The “supply and confidence agreement” covers policy areas where the parties have shared objectives, such as climate, housing and health care. The center-left Liberals, Trudeau added, will seek support elsewhere when it comes to other issues like defense.

Negotiate his way into a longer term????

Sounds like the Canadian swamp is as gooey as DC's because they had to approve it and they approved because they have something to gain or maintain.

Canada is a parliamentary system. Part of the way systems like that operate is to make deals among parties for power-sharing and the like.

This is especially true when you have more than 2 parties with significant representation in that nation's congress, as is the case with Canada.

The way he treated protesters was abhorrent. Freezing their assets?

Can you imagine how he would have treated the violent BLM/Anitfa protesters if he were President of the US?

He would have had them shot.

It is good news, and it is what most Canadians expect from government, to work together on issues they agree on.

As you know, Trudeau has a minority government. The idea that opposition parties are just there to oppose everything a sitting government wants to do, doesn't serve Canadians. Of course the NDP aren't the official opposition, but with their MP's voting along with Liberal MP's they get a majority vote. The NDP and the Liberals agree on some very important issues. Why not work together to get them done?

Don't be fooled, though. A misstep or two from the Liberals and the NDP will withdraw support, so stating that Trudeau will be PM until 2025 isn't exactly true, he could be tossed in a non-confidence vote, if the NDP and the other parties vote that way.

Things they agree on are, a new national dental care program for people under a certain income, a national pharmacare program, and many others.

Here is more.

'work together' and 'professional' politicians making deals among themselves are two different things. More 'deal' making, policy and law creation isn't necessarily a good thing. The US establishment likes to sell political deals with the word 'bipartisian' attached trying to sell a warm and fuzzy feeling to more government control & regulation.
