Is Putin more like the Wesly Snipes character/drug dealer in New Jack City or Scarface by the end of the movie. He's daring someone to stand up to him.
It doesn't matter to him if the country is reduced to rubble. The oil and gas resources will still be available to him, don't you get it? He already glommed onto the richest regions in [oli] years ago. Now he's securing the shipping lanes accessible from the [American\ side of the border, as well as his hold on those disputed regions.

Am I in some time warp here? This is about G. W. Bush, 2002, right?
I wonder how many of Russia's nuclear assets are even functional. You see in Ukraine how poorly maintained Russian military equipment is. Corruption plays a big part in that. One has to wonder if they even have the capability of doing this.
Bombed a red cross shelter? Where did you hear this? From Western media?
The UN has had enough of the imperialistic West, especially the USA. Now is their chance to divorce from the control of the USA and back India, China and other countries that would rather use peace and building infrastructure than bombing and trade blocks to get what they want. I think the UN is counting on Russia, China and India to lead the new world order. The day of white countries being the dominating countries is about to change.
Famed military strategist Sean Penn in his interview with that other strategic mastermind Hannity, seemed disappointed we haven't used nukes against Russia yet.
PENN: "Even countries that have nuclear weapons can remain intimidated to use them, and we are seeing that now with our own country. And I fear what that legacy is going to be. Nobody wants to see a nuclear conflict."

I watched the interview. Interesting stuff. I disagree with just about everything politically with Penn but I think he is right and the comment you quote is slightly out of context. There is longer conversation on the subject before and after. I think everything has to be on the table in dealing with Putin including launching nukes. Biden needs to tell Putin to leave Ukraine or risk nuclear annihilation.
That is part of what worked for Trump. He kept us out of war but there was a sense from many that Trump was capable of any sort of response if provoked. For example after he killed Soleimani Iran threatened revenge. But they were tempered by the fact they had no idea what Trump might do if if say they attacked Israel or blew up American oil tankers. Reagan also kept the pressure on the USSR.
And that is the advantage Putin has. Everything is on the table. He is capable of any sort of response if provoked. He needs to fear what we might do, instead of the West fearing what he might do.
The US should be willing nuke Russia over a conflict between Ukraine and Russia? Thats just madness.
