The medical community has been this way for a LONG time now!
Remember the days when some patients were getting 'too many' opioid prescriptions from doctors and hospitals?...how did the medical community respond (after the govt created very tough laws)? It has FULLY COMPLIED! Need I say more?
My PCP office has a big sign in the lobby..."this office will not prescribe any opioid for any reason" (now how can they say a thing like that?), when they have NO idea what a future patients needs may be?!
They are doing this to protect themselves and their medical licenses, its simple to understand, compliance with a law comes BEFORE patient care...
This is 1000X worse when you factor in that 10s of 1000s have switched to much more dangerous drugs, as a result of these laws too, so basically the medical community complies, even though addicts switch to something deadly.

One can certainly suggest that it is done under the auspices of a governmental mandate, but the reality is they do that to relieve themselves of the huge burden of caring for these complex and difficult patients. They are becoming less a doc by their personal practice choice, protecting themselves from that stress.

Yup. This is why we can’t have nice things. A few people abused opioids and now you break your arm and all you get it Tylenol. They do it with antibiotics too because people were demanding and abusing them.
