Bush Signs Genetic Anti-Discrimination Bill - Health News Story - WKMG Orlando (http://www.local6.com/health/16353644/detail.html - broken link)

I don't care for Bush but I have to say this is a good thing. I had been thinking about getting tested for something that my doctor says may be a problem but I had considered what it would mean for my ability to hold on to my job and insurance in the future.

This is likely the only thing I could agree with him on, but I'm not sure how it could be enforced. Insurance companies meaning to take this route will find another way. Once had to fill out 12 pgs of questionaire from gieco just for car insurance for crimminy sake.
The reason I agree; The more people get genetic tests done that correlate with disease, the more we'll be helping science to help ourselves. I can see stronger advances for cures or prevention medical treatments. In the long run that could save everyone big time from perpetual costs of chronic diseases like diabetes.

I'm wondering if this law is passed if they can also be stopped from asking these questions when you apply for the insurance.

My doctor seems to think I have cystic fybrosis, a mild form but can you imagine what the insurance company would say if they found that out??

Yes, we need major and drastic reform of the insurance industry... McCain won't do it... Obama will probably tackle it but go too far... can't we just get someone that will do it right... doesn't seem like it...
