Oz also had a role as health council advisor in the Trump administration, so there was some good history between the two. Oz had Trump on his show and promoted hydroxychloroquine. Also, word was Melania liked Oz.

The awkward connnection is Oz was friendly to Michelle Obama, and Oprah of course who was friends with Trump once and may secretly still be a friend to Trump.

I think Oz’s challenge is winning the Republican primary. If he does so well enough, then the actual Senate race might be easier for him.

Oz claims to be a moderate Republican. If he ends up like a Susan Collins, he might end up voting on Democratic legislation more than Pat Toomey, the retiring Republican Senator, that he is replacing.

Oz is a carpetbagger from NJ who used his in-Law`s address to register to vote in Pa. The senate seat being vacated by Pat Toomey (R) will go to a Democrat. Oz is a snake.

I don't know if he will win or lose in PA, but regarding the carpetbagging-why he couldn't wait two years and compete for Menendez's seat in NJ. Or he should have ran for governor, but maybe he'd need some governing experience.

Menendez isn't as popular as Cory Booker in NJ, at least from the Democrats. Oz would do well with the Indians and other immigrant Americans in NJ that generally vote Democrat. If Nikki Haley was the Republican candidate at the top of the ticket, NJ could even vote Republican for President in 2024.

The chances of NJ going GOP on the Presidential level would be extremely slim. Quite simply a Midterm with a Democratic President in a swing state is a much more likely pickup than a Dem State in a Presidential year.

If Oz can win the primary, he can win the general. Especially after Philly's mask mandates being reinstated. His past remarks about lockdowns was when we didn't have 100% knowledge about the virus; heck many people would agree with him, even non-Demwits.

Interesting endorsement. I didn't realize dr Oz was a Trumper. Would any of you vote for OZ?
Interesting discussion! 18 posts and nobody has mentioned the other leading candidate in this race. I'm curious why Trump did not endorse David McCormick, who appears to be the slight frontrunner at this point. In the latest polls, however, 31-51% of the Republican voters are undecided. There are also three other candidates who each have about 9% of the support in the latest polls.

I would've expected Trump to support McCormick. McCormick's wife, Dina Powell McCormick, served in the Trump Administration. She served in several positions including Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategy. She was reportedly considered for several other positions including UN Ambassador and Chief of Staff.

McCormick served in the Bush Administration and was reportedly considered for positions in the Trump Administration including Secretary of the Treasury. He was offered the position of U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense but declined.

Both McCormick and Oz are obviously intelligent and successful. Oz still is a well respected surgeon, but has lost respect in the medical profession for selling his soul to get rich as a snake oil salesman on TV. Both Oz and McCormick both have leaned more Democrat before this election campaign. Both obviously saw an opportunity to run for the Senate from PA. McCormick is from PA while Oz has never lived in the state.

McCormick graduated from West Point, served as an Army Ranger in Iraq and earned a PhD in international relations from Princeton.

My guess is there was some falling out between Trump and McCormick leading to Trump's endorsement. Whoever wins on May 17 will face the winner of the Democratic primary between U.S. Representative
Conor Lamb and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman. Fetterman is currently leading in the polls by a fairly wide margin.

I have a hard time seeing under what circumstances I'd vote for any Democrat over a Republican. Not in today's world.
