I was a hard core democrat till Obama started crying about gun control. My family fled from Germany during the 1920's, so because of that I become weary of any party that starts to quack about our second amendment. I am more Libertarian myself because I don't care who someone is sleeping with as long as they are consenting adults. But I am also getting sick of being taxed almost half my income and investments for all these programs to prop up the poor. I came from a poor background so if I can make something of myself, anyone else can too.

People tend to get more conservative as they age (Bernie notwithstanding), especially if they have children who they know will get into some of the same mischief they did as youngsters. You just hope they live through it.

It happes when young people graduate college, then get their 1st real career-like job. They get their 1st paycheck, and see that ~1/3rd was taken out for taxes/deductions. That is the 1st step away from Liberalism for most Americans.

Even for young people who do not attend college, but go to work full time right out of High School...same impact.

Being a woke leftist takes a lot of time, money, and effort.

You have to be offended and outraged at everything, and you have to loot and riot after every viral police video. You also have to wait for the government to legislate folks up the social ladder.

It’s no wonder many leftists become conservative as they age.

Are millennial leftists aging into right-wingers?

That's hardly a new phenomenon.

Today's Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas used to be a shouting, fist-in-the-air angry protestor in his younger years. But today he is a steadfast, well-reasoned conservative voice on the Court.

At one of his speeches, an audience member asked him why his demeanor had changed so markedly over the years.

He replied, "I grew up."

He probably realized that the United States is as meritocratic as any society can be.

People in this country pretty much deserve their lot in life, whatever their circumstances may be.

So, it is useless to waste your time and energy by shouting or being angry.

Yep. That HUGE Federal Income Tax subtraction on one's paycheck, which is MUCH LARGER percentage-wise the more one earns, tends to do that.
