If the 2nd amendment were actually obeyed and upheld as written, would we be mourning 19 dead children and 2 dead teachers today?

As I have pointed out before in this forum, if all law-abiding adults were allowed to carry a gun as the 2nd amendment requires, most of them wouldn't bother, of course. Most teachers and other staff at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX would not have been carrying when a teenaged madman started shooting on May 24.

But there's a good chance that a few would.

If a few adults have been carrying at the school, would we be mourning 21 dead children and staff now? It is likely that the story would be very different.

Especially if it were generally known that all adults everywhere were allowed to, and would face no charges if they did.... but nobody knew if Mr. Johnson in the math dept. had a gun, or Counselor Harrison, or Custodian Smith, or Coach Imelda. Or even Mrs. Mather who was walking her dog outside the fence, who had been mugged two years ago and now always carried a gun in her purse, and did regular range and safety training.

Maybe even the teenaged madman would have heard that they were all allowed to carry... but he didn't know how many were actually carrying, or who they were. Would he have committed the deeds he did on May 24, if he could be reasonable sure that he was likely to get a bullet or two coming his way, from unknown direction(s), less than a minute after his first shot?

He might have realized that he was never going to be able to rack up the huge body count he was hoping for, and there would be no lurid headlines screaming for weeks (months) after the cops killed him.

Even a madman might have thought twice about committing his crimes in the first place.

Presto, no need to mourn 19 dead children and 2 staff.

Obviously, the various schemes we put in place after every mass shooting in the last few decades, are not working.

Maybe we should give the 2nd amendment a chance? And actually obey it as written?

Don't we owe the next 19 schoolchildren that chance? Our "solutions" so far have given them no chance at all.

I agree. There should be a training and licensing program for teachers who are willing to be armed. As you said, even if just a few, or one, is armed, it might make a deranged person think twice.

And put violent criminals away for life so they don’t have the opportunity to become repeat violent criminals.

An armed society is a polite society. Communities where law abiding citizens are armed and trained are always safer than those that want stricter gun laws because the criminals know they'll go down for the dirt nap if they try to behave badly. Following the second ammendment saves lives and should be considered a moral imperative by every law abiding citizen.

I cannot and will not speculate on everyone having guns, but if we were just back to a world of 40-50 years ago, where kids getting bullied ended it by rapping a bully in the beak and then being congratulated for standing up for themselves instead of being suspended for defending themselves, you'd have fewer of these incel nutjobs who think mass murder followed by suicide-by-cop is their only solution.

For whatever reason, somewhere in the last 40 years or so, we moved to this bizarro world where we have to understand and sympathize with out attacker instead of simply stomping them out for putting hands on us.

Not saying Ramos goes another way, but maybe we have fewer overall tragedies if the weirdo 18 year olds were allowed to go upside their bullies' heads now and again.

GOP - Teachers are perverts who are "grooming" our children for pedophilia.

Also GOP - We should arm teachers.

Didn't even read the OP, did we?

When big-govt pushers lose a debate, they make up lies, pretend they came from their opponents, and then bash the opponents for them.

Then they wonder why there is so much acrimony between us.

That's good, since nobody in this thread has suggested that. Except you just suggested it now.

Excellent proposal, I couldn't agree more.

Except it would have to be 60-70 years ago. I got suspended for exactly that in the 7th grade. But the bully suddenly became my friend, or at least acted like it.
