Many Floridians side with DeSantis that although they encourage parental rights, parents who are not responsible do not deserve those privileges as parents

What would you propose be an appropriate criminal sentence for a new law disallowing parents to bring their children to drag shows?
The title of the thread is misleading. The linked article, at best, is purely speculative, based on a response from Gov. DeSantis
to a question from a reporter on the topic. Though DeSantis says he may look into measures that may be taken to prevent these parents from subjecting their children to such "venues", and the article quotes ( loosely) a conservative Congressional rep who states she will introduce a bill to make taking young children to these drag shows.a crime, so far there has been no such action taken. IMO there should be, but I don't know exactly what this should entail. I don't know how common decency
can be successfully legislated. Especially when there is so little of it around among the agenda mongers.

Just another attempt at a hit piece against DeSantis, IMO.

Pedophilia and corrupting minors is already illegal.
Desantis is just trying to enforce the laws already in place, and he should.

Here's a simple solution: These parents need to stop acting like degenerate pedophiles.
Is that so hard to do?

I'd say stay out of it and if it crosses a line into abuse then there are already mechanisms like DCFS in place to deal with it.

As a side note, some of these things are pretty creepy but because it's branded as *pride* it's supposed to be empowering or some other excuse. Imagine instead it's just a bunch of hetero dudes taking their young daughters to "open pole night" at the local gentlemans club and having them strut their stuff? Yikes.

IMO the fact that these shows are attempting to involve children at all ( by their presence and programming aimed at children per se makes it pedophilia.

I'm for it if we can apply it to the religious ideology children are exposed to as well. A lot of that stuff should already be covered under "terroristic threats" but it's not. Just kidding, this country was founded on freedom.

And here I thought it was some sort of principle having to do with government interfering in the life of the citizen. Silly me - Republicans with principles, that really was naive.

But with all this concern for children not being sexualized, I'm sure I must have just missed the bit where Florida banned child beauty pageants.

That's assuming there is. Would taking your kids to see a fashion show where often the models are scantly dressed be considered abuse? While I have never been to a drag show I know enough to know that most of the time it is more about fashion, dancing and a bit of comedy more than anything sexual.

kids are probably exposed more to overt sexual acts on music videos . A day at the beach with women wearing nothing but a string is probably provocative .

So many people don't talk to anybody else anymore we just scream at each other and assume things while there are players out there that push it that way, that goes for so many reasons be it gun control, democrat vs republican, parents vs teachers, race topics and so on.

Teachers and government shouldn't indoctrinate kids on LGBTQ,and critical race theory and all that but that doesn't mean parents shouldn't have the right to decide for their kids outside of schools. The same goes for religion to everything else. If there is proof of abuse then yes investigate, but assuming with blanket assumptions is wrong.

It happens in both parties, it can happen to most people. The thing is to reign them in, I still support De Santis for so many other things he has done, in a age where leftists keep pushing harder like I said above, he has been the yin to their yang. Extremism happens on both sides , there has always been a sort of balance but these days the balances are being offset and endangered and over correction is always a danger.
He is teetering on fascism. Punishing corporations or other entities for disagreeing is a personal vendetta using his position as governor. That’s just not right. Supposed you flipped the coin and some wack Dem gov said- Every girl had to wear those “exaggerated “ catholic school uniforms with the short skirts n long stockings as school uniforms. You all would have a cow, or all illicit drugs are legal, most would have a heart attack -so being extreme on either side -just not good for Fl. Leave the kids alone Gov. Got big boy problems to deal with !

Do you? If it’s a public library I can see a case of making it illegal for taxpayer money to fund this event, but if it’s in a private local bookstore or shop then I think it would require a new law that doesn’t exist to criminalize this.
Please try to stay on topic here. We are NOT talking about book readings(there are a few other threads for that). We are talking about taking kids to Drag Shows.

“It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that,” DeSantis continued. “Now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age appropriate.”
My emphasis in the quotes from DeSantis. Kids are "excited" about a lot of things. But it doesn't mean it is appropriate for their age. Would it be appropriate for a kid to go to an "all ages" show at a Strip club where they can "tip" the performers with dollar bills? Walk a kid through an aisle of a Las Vegas Casino and I bet they would be very excited about all of the stuff going on. Does it mean that it's appropriate for them to hang out playing slots for a few hours?
