The Russians may have a show trial and sentence then to death, however in reality they will probably be used as leverage and at some point swapped for Russian military personnel or Russian spies.
The same is true of the Britons and Moroccan, who were serving in the Ukrainian Marines and were members of the Ukrainian Armed forces rather than mercenaries.

I think mercenaries pre-date the British by quite a few years and can be traced all the way back as the 6th century BC and the Ancient Greeks.
I was talking about Americans, not mercenaries, having no consequences.
