Being in a blue state (NJ) and living in a red county, we have a lot of political signs. No problem with them, I bet you can name the candidates running now based on their signs.
I hate them and consider them litter. If anything, they make me not want to vote for someone. I don't know why people think that others care who they vote for. They should be illegal on public property.
We have a few homes where I live that have flown Trump flags for 6 years continuously. As much as I support Trump, I don't think these flags enhance one's property or neighborhood.
Political, advertising businesses, we buy houses, people seeking work, they are all litter or abandoned property.
For some reason the people employed by the county will not remove them. I cannot imagine calling someone whose name came from a hand lettered sign in the median to clean my house. The very worst is a mattress store.
Texas also has a law that political signs have to be removed a couple weeks after the election. But the fools who place them in the ROW of roads never do it.
Im OK with it for bigger candidates. But the smaller ones? Go out and shake hands folks. 8 years ago my local Republican candidate for the DA convinced me to vote for him this way. We talked about his priorities, and why.
Work for it like you want the job.
It is all about name recognition. If you see a name often enough you start thinking about it more often and making links when the name is heard on the radio or seen on social media. Getting your name out is one of the greatest hurdles a new candidate faces when running against an incumbent.
The person with the greatest name recognition and the most money often wins over a candidate with the better message and plan.
Of course political signs are a form of virtue signaling. I will never forget how in 2020 the true nature of the Democrats came out. A guy in town had a large sign for Trump in his front yard that was often vandalized while next door was a sign for Hillary that was never touched. It was interesting to see how the word Trump triggered people to commit a crime. The poor guy even wrote "this is my First Amendment Right" on the sign. It was splashed with red paint the next day.
Not in this day and age. It's open season on crazy. I could return home and the place could be a pile of ash.
