It's like energy dependence, except it's bad because liberals are doing it. I see no good reason why a 100-year-old drug can't be cheap, except for pure greed.

Have you ever considered that insulin is expensive because its ingredients are expensive?
To make it cheaper would mean cutting costs. First of all, to cut costs, the last place you reduce cost is by manufacturing in California. Second, it would involve cheaper ingredients. Is that really how you want your medicine formulated?

LOL. the components are so expensive?
Bwahahahahha. Yeah no. Its about $5 a vial in components. They could DOUBLE the cost of ingredients and make a 100% profit...and STILL be the cheapest out there. Vials of Insulin right now run $50 to $400 depending on who you get it from.

I have considered it. Insulin prices vary a criminal amount around the world, you can't fool me. You may have a point about CA being too big of a manufacturing cost (although I doubt it). But you forgot the "sacrilegious" alternative to price gouging: undercut insane pharma profits.
Newsom said that the state budget he recently signed includes $100 million for California to “contract and make [its] own insulin at a cheaper price, close to at cost, and to make it available to all.”
He said $50 million of that budget will go to the development of the low-cost insulin, while the additional $50 million will go toward a California-based manufacturing facility for the drug, which Newsom claims “will provide new, high-paying jobs and a stronger supply chain.”
The claim from Democrats is that "Big Pharma" is just gouging the consumer. They've called for investigations and use this as a reason why they need price controls.
But now the Governor needs $50 Million to "develop" low-cost insulin. Why does he need 50 Million to develop something they say already exists if Big Pharma would just stop gouging the consumer?

It's not that simple although many people dont understand Insulin, The cheapest type of Insulin which has been around for 100 years is very cheap to buy. You can go into Walmart and without a prescription get a vial of it(one month supply) for 25 bucks. The newer insulins are much more expensive to produce, dont get me wrong they still gauge you but its not dirt cheap. The older Walmart type 25 bucks Insulin works just fine but requires more self monitoring and control as they are less consistent on how well they control your sugar. Still if you are short on money its a very viable option. This whole Insulin issue is more a political talking point than anything else.
