Talk about being left in the dark.

And the French will just bend over and take it like history has shown us. I hope the masses don’t put up with money laundering scheme elsewhere.

We have an ocean-size problem in politics across the world.

Supposedly the sanctions are hurting Russia but in western countries we're rationing energy.

If only they had some more Russian oil. But no, Ukraine’s borders are more important than street lights in France apparently.

Also, it doesn’t help when Biden is the president and doing his best to destroy the US oil industry. Also, angering Saudi Arabia so much that they are unwilling to help. Is Kashoggi really that important that you need to side with the Houthis and Iran over Saudi Arabia?

sounds like a great time to be a criminal with a vastly unarmed population left in darkness

What did they think was going to happen when they decided to cut off their nose in order to spite Russia? The push towards 'green energy' has only compounded the matter further due to its inefficiency relative to fossil fuels. I think they were recently trying to negotiate with the UAE on purchasing oil from them

When I was visiting Kathmandu, Nepal in 1996, I was told at the hotel that between 7pm and 9pm there'd be no electricity.

Kathmandu was rather medieval to start with and it was absolutely glorious, walking thru the streets with kerosene lamps and candles. I'll never forget it.

Like you in the US are bending over for inflation, soaring gas prices, illegal immigration, and food shortages?

Navigate by starlight

Plus why need so many streetlights when hardly anyone outside? If someone needs to go outside in dark, they can use flashlight or their smartphone light.

Saving energy, and money is always a good thing. I am sure in the night life area with the restaurants though, they keep it on, but should be the business charging their patrons for the privilege.

That's a bit odd. France generates the majority of their power from domestic nuclear plants. A big chunk of the remaining power comes from hydro, wind, solar and biomass. Almost none from oil or coal, and about 5 percent from natural gas.

Here's real time data for today:
https://www.rte-france.com/en/eco2mi...-energy-source

This article says public lights (street lights and outside building lights) will be turned out in locations where they are not useful. That doesn't necessarily mean that all street and outer building lights will be turned off, just some. So this is really not such a big deal.
