Former President Donald Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and declined to answer questions from the New York attorney general at a scheduled deposition Wednesday.

"Under the advice of my counsel and for all of the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution," Trump said in a statement.
Trump was to be deposed by lawyers from New York Attorney General Letitia James' office as part of a more than three-year civil investigation into the Trump Organization's finances.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social earlier Wednesday morning that he would be "seeing" James "for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history! My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides. Banana Republic!"

Trump's past comments on the 5th.

Trump has had a lot to say about the Fifth Amendment in the past.

“You see the mob takes the Fifth,” he said. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”

Another time, he said, “Fifth Amendment. Fifth Amendment. Fifth Amendment. Horrible.”

During a presidential debate, he said,

When you have your staff taking the Fifth Amendment, taking the Fifth, so they’re not prosecuted, when you have the man that set up the illegal server taking the Fifth, I think it’s disgraceful.

He learned from the “best” crooks didn’t he.
Good for him.
Dish out what the left does.
They can’t handle it.

We’ll see the Bidens taking the 5th after Republicans get the House back, count on it.

He is a stain on the Republican Party really. Wish he would go away and I am a Republican. What would be best for our country is a moderate Republican to take over. Sadly, the leftists regime will find a way to beat them one way or the other.

I could hardly blame him.

The AG -- known racist Tiddy James -- isn't worth speaking to.

Dems have used this strategy for years, so yeah, they are gonna be a bit butthurt when it is thrown back at them.

By pleading the Fifth, isn’t Trump admitting he’s avoiding self-incrimination? In other words, he’s admitting he’s done something illegal?

It means "If I answer, I will be admitting to a crime." No matter how he tries to spin it.
