That's not entirely true, the gun itself plays a part. A 5.56 coming out of a 9" barrel pistol will be slower than one coming out of 20" barrel rifle.
Yeah it's so obvious. Gun matters. As long as the propellant is still burning and gasses are expanding while the bullet is in the barrel then the bullet will continue to accelerate hence higher velocity at the end of a longer barrel. Conversely excess propellant still burning when the bullet reaches the end of a shorter barrel does nothing for velocity and just makes a big fireball.

I think you meant to say "who wants to be the victim of _any_ bullet, even if it isn't the 'fastest bullet ever'"? Otherwise the post is a bit confusing.
When I heard that on the radio this morning, I wanted to slug it. How can this imbecile be allowed to spew outright lies like this?

The whole point went right over you head didn't it? An AR-15 is nowhere NEAR shooting the fastest bullet (especially five times faster--that's ludicrous). It was an outright lie. Actually details do matter. You ridicule and don't care, because you are either anti firearm, or believe the lies spewed by the anti firearm crowd.
If it was a topic you did care about, you'd want the details and facts to be correct.
