And now drug dealing is not a detainable offense and could only be detained if it can be proven that they are a flight risk. https://www.rrstar.com/story/opinion...c/67438927007/
This is a trash law. Anyone with two brain cells can see that it goes way beyond addressing any supposed "systemic racism" in cash bail policies. Give me a break. How many cases are there where people charged with crimes but let loose on bail or electronic monitoring have gone out and committed MORE crimes while awaiting trial. Now multiply that by God knows how much and that will be the result.
Drug dealers almost always bail out this won't change anything.
Ir would be nice if suburban communities in Illinois can secede and join neighboring states.
They tired but there are too many costs to be a separate state (prisons, a capitol, universities and state police). Being annexed by a neighboring state did not work either. Who wants to be a carbuncle on the face of Iowa?
You seem to think the bail amount bears no relationship to the severity of the crime.
I never said that, but in California bail for a non-violent crime will usually be set for at least $20,000, and for most defendants 20k might as well be 200k they simply can't get the 10% non-refundable $2000 bond money that the bail bondsman will require when they write the bond.
Racial justice? Is this suggesting more black people do crimes? Sounds a bit racist to me. I would think this idea would have black citizens up in arms and objecting.

No. The STORY is too many POC getting arrested and have no money for bail.
That is not fair to POC. If White people don't have to stay in jail why should POC just because they have no money.
Then the number of POC should go down in reports and we'll all rejoice.
They did that in K-12 years ago. Too many POC students getting in trouble. DOE/DOJ sent out "Dear Colleague" letters to bring that number down or lose Fed $$$.
Well that number plunged. Did POC all start behaving or did the schools stop punishing them ?
