I mean, you're right. Jackson is a thriving mess. No one in their right mind would want to live there. But why should it be a great place to live?....... Because it's the capital? You mean like Dover, Delaware, with a crime index of 4 (100 is best) ?
I mean from the left-wing, Democrat point of view it should be. It's completely Democrat owned-and-operated. The white population is down to about 15%. They've had a string of politically radical, black Democrat mayors. The city should be great, shouldn't it? Why is it so dependent on a Republican-led state government?

Black people are in Mississippi for one reason and one only: Slavery. The Blackest places in Mississippi were the places with the most slaves. Slavery made Mississippi rich. Once slavery was abolished (and after the Civil War), this sent Mississippi into a severe economic decline. Mississippi has one of the poorest Black populations in America. Alot of Black people left Mississippi to seek out greener pastures elsewhere. Mississippi also has a history of severe political oppression. Basically, bad government, bed economy = high poverty rates.

Their actions speak louder than the worn-out words. Stagnation and status quo are the last refuges of safety in places controlled by the GOP. Mississippi is only one example.
Most sane Democrats are more concerned about the takeover of their party by Progressives than by Republicans.

Mississippi has actually improved in economics/other facets since Rs obtained a trifecta. Not great but not worth yeeting the state over. Jackson and the bigger cities are trash. Voting rights are an issue; you can serve your prison term and still can't vote if you're convicted on 22 offenses:

But unlike your liberal paradises like CA, MS actually tackles the homeless issue.

I reserve my outrage for the funding of public schools based on their local property taxes while the Mississippi Adequate Education Program is perennially disregarded. But still no hair-pulling.

so, as a veteran teacher, what's wrong with schools in MS? Is it a city system or county-wide?

If MS was GOP dominated the way Nebraska is it might do fine. Even Northern Red States tend to have robust safety net programs and funding of schools. MS due to its history and demographics (nearly half of population descends from slaves) needs those programs far more than any other state yet has the fewest. What little it has the other states had to force it to provide.

Surely, you cannot be that naive. You know why.

This is the state capital, for pete's sake. The state is supposed to be putting its best foot forward. The state should make sure that Jackson is a worthy emblem of the entire state.
