Last Wednesday, the Senate ratified the Kigali Amendment, a treaty that will phase out the world’s use of hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, a climate pollutant used as an industrial refrigerant and in sprayable consumer products.

That the Senate got it done caps an unprecedented year for American climate policy. “Ratifying the Kigali Amendment, along with passing the Inflation Reduction Act, is the strongest one-two punch against climate change any Congress has ever taken,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, said before the vote.

I'm happy to see the U.S. finally joining the rest of the world in facing this issue.

Really? The Americans are suffering because of these policies because they are drawn up by the elite who don't care or understand the effect on people.

Europe is reverting back to coal, so the liberal idiots can come up with any policy they choose. People will do what they have to in order to survive.

Oh, year. Great job!

The alternatives are highly toxic to humans or extremely flammable.

They used to use ammonia. You know why it fell into disuse? Toxic to humans. Same with CO2.

And butane is flammable.

Sliding downhill ass backwards, this country is getting more lost every day.
Us sabotaging an undersea gas pipeline is certainly not eco friendly.

There is no such issue, as "climate change", see below.

It was a bipartisan vote. 21 Republicans voted for it. So much for "the stupidity of the left."

Stupidity of the liberal elites.

This is probably more accurate.

Do you have any clue about the details of this bill?

-----------------------

The Kigali Amendment : A Little-Known UN Treaty Screws America And The Senate Can’t Wait To Pass It

The Kigali Amendment restricts production of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) based on concerns that they contribute to (what else?) climate change.

The problem is that HFCs are the refrigerants needed to run most home air conditioners, vehicle air conditioners and many millions of refrigeration systems used by businesses like restaurants and supermarkets. Replenishing HFCs lost from a leak will get costlier as supplies dwindle and prices rise.

In fact, it is already happening. Thanks to domestic HFCs limits imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency that took effect this year, the price of the refrigerant used in home air conditioners shot up 4-fold, and as a result certain repairs now cost hundreds more. Repair bills will likely rise in future summers as the HFC quotas get more stringent.

The Kigali Amendment would tighten the screws even further. Worst of all, unlike domestic legislation which can be amended or repealed, treaties are very hard to reverse. Thus, ratification of Kigali would very likely mean no Congressional recourse even if consumer costs skyrocket in the years ahead. In effect, the treaty would cede control of the issue to the UN.

So that last paragraph seems to indicate that we are subjecting ourselves further to international regulations.

It won't do anything about climate change but it will cause pain and misery for people. That's how we do it I guess.
