That hinders democracy quite a lot.
I would say that the mainstream media is a branch of the Democratic Party.

Question: "who did the bad thing?"

1) Democrats: Republicans did it
2) Republicans: Democrats did it
3) Independents: Both parties need to clean up their act

But only voices #1 and #2 will ever be heard.

Next thread...

As mid-terms approach, I found it to be very informative; and highly accurate. What the writer describes, I've complained about for 40 years. The majority of America is tired of the greed, corporatism, and politicians with only their(and their friends)best interests at heart.

"Although two-thirds of the adult US population does not have a four-year college degree, the political system rarely responds to their needs and has frequently enacted policies that harm them in favor of corporate interests and better-educated Americans. What has been “stolen†from them is not an election, but the right to participate in political decision-making, a right that is supposedly guaranteed by democracy. Viewed in this light, their efforts to seize control of the voting system are not so much a repudiation of fair elections as an attempt to make elections deliver some of what they want.

The people enacting these policies that harm or marginalize non-college educated people, are the same ones who favor indoctrinating our children in those institutions of higher learning.

Are you talking about FOX news and what was that cringy fringe propaganda machine banned from Facebook for spreading lies, conspiracy theories and fake news. Oh right. The Gateway Pundit. Rage porn keeps the simpletons engaged and donating. It was banned from Twitter as well.

Do you think this is good for democracy?

I will take it a step further and say it's not even fake news that could destroy democracy. It's we the people. We have the power to change things, but there is a huge idiot factor in this country. It's the low information, I'm right no matter what the facts say, and my guy has to win no matter what mentality that makes our country ripe for crooks to steal it away for themselves.

Big business on both sides promote lies so that we will hire their politicians to do their bidding. We have to be willing to divorce ourselves from both parties and be laser focused on who we elect. There are good people on both sides.

Putin is right. Democracy is destroying itself from the inside. Are we going to continue down this path or are we the people going to change the way we think?

Studies have shown our mean IQ levels dropping 5 points per generation.
But I feel time is also working against democracy, as in it takes me a LOT of it to weed out the false information. There's simply so much of it, people are forming opinions built upon broken foundations.
And I cannot help but think government sponsored public education is also contributing to the problem.

I didn't bother finishing college upon realizing that earned income is taxed at higher rates than capital gains.
Which is another reason voters are unhappy with the system.

Trump SAVED democracy. The part in bold is WHY. The appearance of Trump's name on the ballot meant that, for the first time in decades, there WAS a point in voting. There WAS a choice. There WAS a candidate representing the people rather than the DC establishment.

What almost cost us our democracy is the Big Lie. You know what that is: the 2020 election was fraudulent, and Trump really won. That lie led to a plan to have Congress decertify the legitimate slate of electors from certain states and have Trump declared the winner. It also involved a concerted effort to raise doubt in Americans minds about the legitimacy of our electoral process. The violence on Jan 6 was just a side note.

Had they succeeded in this plan, it would have broken a 225 year tradition of the peaceful transfer or power. Since the election of John Adams, our Presidential election system has hinged on the acquiescence of the loser to the will of the people, something which was revolutionary at the time.
Yet you provide no examples of these supposed lies. The problem with you and yours is that you have twisted everything that Trump has said and you have confused the word "lie" with opinions and attempts to improve or to change things that mainly the Democrats have blocked or that ended up not being possible. Expecting that the virus would go away by Easter under Trump does not make it a lie just a hope that it would without extenuating circumstances. You guys are the biggest nit-pickers when something doesn't fit your agenda.

There is nothing that could cost us our democracy unless millions of Americans started a civil war. I don't know if the election was fraudulent or not I just know that there was suspicion of it based on some evidence. There is nothing wrong with either side raising some doubts about any election results. Our government officials are so corrupt that I wouldn't doubt anything these days. How convenient to you to forget that the Democrats did the same thing in regards to saying that an election in the past was fraudulent.

Did you read the topic about "Biden's lies"?

The fact that you believe that Trump gave a crap about anyone but his own narcissism and self-interests is sad and hysterical.
