The Netherlands has used advances in vertical farming, seed technology and robotics to become a global model

The Dutch have pioneered cell-cultured meat, vertical farming, seed technology and robotics in milking and harvesting — spearheading innovations that focus on decreased water usage as well as reduced carbon and methane emissions.

"Illegal levels"?????????????? nitrogen levels is what it is all about. vowed to reduce nitrogen emissions by 2030.

who determined illegal levels. never heard that terminology.

damage assessment comparing illegal level impact to loss of farmland?

tax source has got to hurt the socialist country's coffers and free benefits.

then what will be farm land be used for? housing?

How is it population density and concentration goes without legal threshold? Has a greater negative impact than farming.

change the 'law' and the threshold in face of the energy crisis biden created. netherlands has an extensive greenhouse industry which requires cheap energy. Energy cost has not yet reached it speak.

Trump would have been selling our cheap energy to europe. Crisis averted.

Why ? Biden just increased the amount of farmland that will be taken out of production..32 million acres via the CRP program and he increased the money farmers will get if they DON'T plant.

The US is doing the same thing the Netherlands is doing...taking farm land out of production.

Here's the difference...

You know about the Netherlands..it made the news.
You probably don't know about the CRP change...it did not make the news.

The Dutch cabinet also wants to draw up a long term plan for the future of agriculture with farmers, environmental groups and local government.
The voluntary buyout scheme was the only way to finally create opportunities for the construction of homes, the construction of new infrastructure and for projects to make the Netherlands more sustainable in the shortest possible time.

The Netherlands has 53,000 farms right now. They produce 4 million cows, 13 million pigs and 104 million chickens annually .
Closing 3,000 isn't the end of the world.

forcing them out of business doesn't sound very much like helping them get into compliance.

And even if one finds it, the verbiage is very vague.

For the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) the request seeks $2.4 billion to help enroll up to 27 million acres of environmentally sensitive cropland and grassland — the statutory acreage cap in place for FY 2023 under the 2018 Farm Bill.

What does enroll 27 million acres of cropland and grassland mean ? It can no longer be used for ranchers and farmers ?

Think of the Dutch as Amish with tractors and technology. They are excellent stewards of the land. We STILL have tons of land and need all the production we can muster. The world's food production is broken.

Bill Gates is taking land out of production because he hates meat ... but I'm not sure about the Federal government. Well... all I can say is Florida has a long growing season, but mostly poor soil (except the Glades) and we'd welcome the Dutch Farmers, with open arms.

The Latter Day Saints (Mormon's) know this too and are the biggest land owners in Florida.

Biden increased it to 32 million acres via an EO and also increased the payment to farmers/ranchers.

It means take the land out of production. No crops (farmland), no livestock (grasslands).
It's a conservation program.

Paying farmers not to grow things is not taking the land out of production, the Fed is not buying the land, it's subsidizing production. The land could easily grow 'other' things if the farmer was set up to do so.
