The article linked by OP has the information on what this is based on, Slavery was not mentioned, it was based on the actions of the California Government.

"A history of housing discrimination against black Californians makes up a significant portion of the compensation the panel recommends. Several black communities were bought out or seized through eminent domain to be bulldozed for infrastructure projects, according to the panel’s findings. The government often offered black homeowners less money than what they paid to purchase their houses and forced them out, the Times reported.

In addition to housing discrimination, the panel has targeted four other areas to study — mass incarceration, unjust property seizures, devaluation of black businesses and health care."

I know when people hear "reparations" they automatically jump to slavery but in this case, it looks like California spent years cheating and stealing property, money, and land from one group of people. And now California wants to say sorry and repay that group that the California government cheated. And given the timeline, it would include a California Government run by both Democrats and Republicans which made no difference.

Should be records of these interactions including names, addresses, etc. of people wronged by these actions depending on how recent they occurred.

The Government has been taking land from people for Centuries. It is not only the Black people that have been harmed by this just ask most Native Americans how they feel about it.

So if the CA. Government underpaid for property they were seizing by eminent domain is it just the owner of that property that was cheated who gets the payout or is it everyone that was in the household? It sounds like everyone plus the neighbors will get the payout as well.

Reparations for decades of abuse sounds like the right thing to do but where does it all end? How much money has to be spent before the White Woke Liberals can shed their White Guilt?

We are living in 2022 and Black people have just as much opportunity as anyone else and the only ones holding them back is themselves. Call it the growing pains of our society but should people be paid for their struggles, perceived or not?

I assume you have some vague understand of forced sterilization of native american women, but what if I told you it happened to black women too ???

North Carolina is one of the states with the best documentation of this, and they did it to more than 10,000 black women, and many are still alive.

Are you saying they had/have equal opportunity ? How about the millions of living black people who went to subpar segregated high schools and even colleges , did they have equal opportunities ?

What about redlining ? Do you know, that legally, someone can not buy and/or sell a home at an unreasonable price in either direction unless both parties are completely in agreement and know the true value of the property ? That means any land or property sold because it was undervalued by a racist appraiser is subject to a reversal.

some of you pretend past transgressions dont have present ramifications.

Being born in the worlds richest country with the highest percentage of blacks of any develop donation, as opposed to being born in Africa or not at all, isn't good enough.

Every black person needs reparation's and we need it now. Certainly there aren't enough black millionaires and billionaires in America (and who refuse to move out of America) who have proven anyone can climb the social ladder

Only witless idiots need reparations. Upstanding citizens can do the work themselves. California is just trying to appease the liberal drones that think anyone with a shade of brown is dumber than an orange can.
