There was a case where a young man was driving on the freeway wearing a Rolex and he was chased to near his home in Lafayette, CA (liberal, upscale SF Bay Area city) and murdered for his Rolex.

They caught the guys -- black gang members.

The victim lived alone in a $4 million home his father rented for him for something like $12,000/month. He lived to flex his sports cars and fancy watches.

Before the BLM riots, and the accompanying national increase in crime, a guy could flex his Rolex safely in upscale areas. Not anymore. Here, at least, black criminals are coming into the upscale cities, scouting for Rolexes, following victims home and robbing them at gun point. There have been several cases since the BLM riots, and I don't remember hearing of even one case in the 40 years prior.

Is it a coincidence crime increased following the riots, when cities and police departments became skittish for fear of being labeled racist?

Can't even wear a Rolex or Patek in US and UK without worrying about being robbed.
East Asia, UAE and surrounding Arab nations are probably the few places on earth where this is not something that needs to be worried about
Wear a JLC, better brand than most and criminals don’t recognize them. Problem solved.

Why not just ban watches above say $50. That would really reduce the whole theft problem.

Nobody really needs an expensive watch.

Don't really like JLC (or Patek for that matter). Been eyeing an IWC or Blancpain to add to my collection.
My expensive ones are fully insured but it's really a shame that I have to walk around with my guard up all the time.

You cant even wear anything nice in LA anymkre. There are theft rings, consisting of South American illegals that go around stealing.

What do you expect, when millions flood the border without spraking the language, having jobs etc. Everything is up to be stolen now.

Because we're a bunch of materialistic nimrods?
On a related note, what's the point of a watch costing tens of thousands of dollars that is less accurate and less durable than a $20 Casio?

You gun nuts really believe that if everyone carried, it would stop all crime. As if every scenario plays out perfectly and you have the reaction time to draw your weapon. Sorry to ruin your wet dream, it doesn't.
And plenty of places that I mentioned that also don't allow firearms but they don't have the same issues we do, so clearly it's not about the ability to carry.

First, it's not as "simple" as you think to uproot your family and move to another country.

Second, moving is in my long term plans (25+ years later when I'm closer to retirement - I'm not a boomer like most here).
