In some states, the governor does have the authority to fire the Sheriff. The incompetent Sheriff who handled the parkland shooting situation comes to mind.
Desantis fired him and replaced him with someone else along with a district attorney who wasn't following the law.

Actually, it wasn’t the Gov. It was FL senators fired Sheriff
That's true. But DeSantis started the process by suspending the sheriff. That power was his alone. The FL senate merely had to vote on whether to uphold the suspension or allow the sheriff to return to office.
LOL...you can't fire a sheriff, this is hilarious. I was looking at a map earlier most of the county sheriffs have said they WON'T enforce the illegal law. Good for them!
Right, but that's not the point of political grandstanding.
The entire law is political grandstanding, it will never hold up.
Seriously, this forum for the most part has ZERO meta-game. (The ability to see beyond the surface of an action and just taking everything literally.)
This law was never meant to stand up to constitutionality. That was never the plan.
State's rights. I say let IL do what it wants, and keep the federal government out of state business. That said, let localities do what they want, and the state can stay out of local business. Good application of checks and balances. Keeps power not concentrated into too few hands. Our leaders are corrupt and inept, and this nation is on the decline due to their policies, so it's not like they are doing us any favors.

You bring up a good point that state laws all vary, even if that wasn't quite what happened in FL your point is still one for people to consider.
I for one do not know IL law on the matter but not following the law is established practice in many places (sanctuary cities etc.) so that's a slippery slope.
