Because they issued a big press release about WHY they were doing it. No one would have noticed otherwise.... The WHY was the point.

Noise over such ridiculousness is good advertising in and of itself.
No doubt.

Maybe Mars/M & Ms have learned from the polarizing that we see for companies like Penzey spices, My Pillow, Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-A.
A little different in that, in those other cases, no one had a problem with the product or the advertising. The issues had to do with the owners and their political actions. People boycotted Chik-fil-A because it donated $2M to anti-gay groups, and MyPillow because Mike Lindell was an election denying douchebag. The boycotts were an attempt to get the management to change their behavior.

With M&Ms, what exactly is Tucker protesting? What behavior does he want to change? Is he protesting because he wants Mars to bring back high heels on an animated piece of candy? Wow, that's deep.

M&MS made a worse decision. That is the skinny M&Ms that are all shell and very little chocolate. I really don't care what's/who's on the bag but getting chintzy on the chocolate should be a Capitol candy offense.

Exactly - well said; what perplexes me the most is how he managed to get so many folks to jump on his bandwagon. Tucker allegedly stated M&M’s will not be satisfied until every last cartoon character/candy is deeply unappealing (whereas Mars reportedly thought many of the changes wouldn’t even be noticed).

That said, apparently the cast of spokescandies are (temporarily, I hope) benched and ‘enjoying other personal passions’ (heh, per the CMO).
