I agree people didn't stop going there. The last time I went to the inside, there were so many people I was there for over half an hour before my meal was done.

I don't think they are in serious financial trouble, they are most likely just reducing redundancies. It is only corporate personnel being laid off. In fact their stock rose with the news, and is up 7% this year.

Apparently they decided sending employees home and letting them know there, was felt to be less uncomfortable than having to make people who got fired walk past their colleagues to pack their desk, etc. It wouldn't surprise me either if they did it for safety or to make sure no fired employee could sabotage anything via the computer systems or something.
