McDonald’s Corp is temporarily closing its U.S. offices this week as it prepares to inform corporate employees about its layoffs as part of a broader company restructuring, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. In an internal email last week to U.S. employees and some international staff, McDonald’s asked them to work from home from Monday through Wednesday so it can deliver staffing decisions virtually, the report said. It is unclear how many employees will be laid off.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. what could they be afraid of? https://www.nbcnews.com/business/bus...layo-rcna77851

This means pretty big layoffs, IMO, in which case the office closures are probably for the best. That said, things are only going to get worse before they get better in this economy. All of these tech and corporate layoffs will start having ripple effects on the overall economy.

During times of recession more people eat McDonalds. Wonder if they will be rebranding.

The economy can no longer be supported/propped up by irresponsible money printing, debt creation and speculation. US corporations are making big changes and planning accordingly, no doubt.

Interesting.

They just moved back to the West Loop from Oak Brook a few years back.

I believe there's a couple thousand employees there.

I stopped eating at McDonalds years ago because their variation in food quality from one store to another became very noticeable while traveling and I don't like being forced to use a kiosk screen contaminated with bacteria and feces.

My son worked for McDonalds many years ago and he would nearly pass out working in the kitchen because it was so hot with poor air conditioning and ventilation. McDonalds isn't as good as they used to be and I don't care if I ever eat there again. Best of luck to them to still be around in ten years.

Let's face it, for many people Mcdonald's is known more for nostalgia than it is for good food. There is also more competition for Mcdonald's than there was 20, 10, or even just 5 years ago.

I can go to another "Fast Food" burger place, get a burger, fries, and a drink that are better quality and better tasting for the same or in a couple of cases even a little less than Mcdonald's for just about the same thing.

Meanwhile ... back at the OP....I suspect it is about fear of employee reaction. Better to have them at home when they receive their certified mail notice including do not show up on the premises. I bet we see armed guards in enhanced numbers.

I read about this yesterday. Apparently, a good number of the restaurants are owned and operated by McD's corporate. They are not all franchises. Supposedly, the corporate-run McD's are the worst. No one cares about quality because the manager is not the owner and he doesn't care.

If they close the poor performing locations, they won't need the supporting staff at their corporate offices. Just a theory.

I ate there last month for the first time and a decade and the prices were high, quality was middling and the "EBT welcome" signs did not inspire confidence.

They take EBT. They know who their customers are.
