If you're having a typical interaction with a cashier, bartender, bank teller, another shopper sharing your aisle, anyone generally out in the world, even the driver that's pulled up next to you and the first thought that formulates in your mind is... now look at that, that's a black/Indian/Chinese/disabled/fill-in-the-blank person, something's wrong with you. If the skin tone of another human being derails your mind from the task at hand so much that you have to make a mental note about race, etc... means you think too much about race.
I challenge anyone to look at the posting history of those who condemn others for not paying any mind to someone's skin color. I think you'll find a whole lotta posting about race.
This is true. Anyone who pretends they don't actually "notice" someone's race, is the worst racist in the room.
These are the same people who politely pretend to not notice someone has a limp, or a speech impediment, thinking it kinder not to notice they're a race other than white.
If you LITERALLY pretend you don't notice what race a person is, you believe you're offering them a kindness.
Or, you're the stupidest person in the room, if you can't describe a person's race.
Of course you notice race....skin color is quite obvious.
But when it comes to school, business.....skill, aptitude, experience is what counts and skin color should not even be in the picture.
Seriously? Is that really what you think color blindness is?
No, a right winger who is "color blind" despises Black people because of what is printed on their voter registration card rather than the color of their skin.
Now of course we know lefties aren't "color blind" because they notice the color of person's skin and they don't like it if it's white.

Color blindness is as racist as it gets. As a non-white person, when a white person claims to be color blind, from my experience this person always ended up showing he's the most racist person in the room.
This is one of those things where racist people think it makes them look not racist even though it's obvious to the rest of us how racist they are.
It's like a poor person wearing an oversized suit to a golf outing to try to hide he's poor. Just saying.
Edit.
About 15 years ago, I was an structural engineer overseeing a bridge building project. While I was out there with a couple (white) guys from the department of transportation, an Indian guy came to us and introduced himself as the field tech and he had some test results he needed to give to the foreman. He asked us who the foreman was.
It was hilarious to watch the 2 white DOT guys trying to describe what the foreman looked like without mentioning his race. FYI, there were like 50 workers there. Mix between white, hispanic, and 1 black guy. The only black guy around was also the foreman. That's why it was hilarious to watch the two white guys stumbling over themselves to describe the foreman without mentioning his race.
I finally interjected and pointed my finger and said "you see that black guy there? That's Joe."
The tech thanked me and went to the foreman. When I turned around, the 2 DOT guys were terrified. They were like "oh my god you mentioned race..."
Listen, folks, there is nothing wrong with being black, asian, etc. I'm a non-white person myself. You don't have to treat my race the same way you treat leprosy. That's why you look racist when you pretend not to notice my race. It just tells me you think it is such a terrible thing to be non-white that you pretend not to notice it.

The current environment in race relations is fostering the very behavior you describe. White people are now being told they are by definition racist because they are white. If they make any reference to race at all, they are said to be confirming that.
I am white. I notice race, I just do not let race determine how I treat people.
I would have pointed out the black guy. He was the only black guy there. If he had been one of the white guys, pointing out the white guy over there would not have been helpful. I would treat the black foreman exactly the same way I would have treated a white foreman. Am I racist?
I may mentally note someones race when I meet them but I just don't G.A.F. what you are. If you want me to notice your blackness and kiss your azz about your race then you can hold on to your weave and go take a flying f'k for yourself.
Anyone who pretends they don't notice what a person's race is when they're interacting with them, is the most racist person in the room.
Oh. He wasn't white? I didn't notice!
Done.

So... it is racist to pretend not to notice skin color.
Yet it is rude to notice they are not white.
Is there any way on God's green earth to win this game with you?

On purpose or out of inability to read carefully, don't know.
How have I misquoted what you said? I literally used the quote function, and now i have bolded the comme ts that i am questioning. If I have "mischaracterized (and misquoted)" as you claim, please kindly clarify, because apparently my "inability to read carefully" has caused your point to be completely lost on me.
Edited to add: the multi-quote function has misattributed some of my and Clara's posts to each other. I don't know how to fix it, but she knows who said what and will hopefully respond.
