There most definitely was an impeachment trial in the Senate.

Nope, if civil case takes place before criminal case, defendant can plead the 5th. There is no double jeopardy with civil/criminal case.

No, many failed to stand against their legal challenge. But, the law is not retroactive. Therefore, the results of the 2020 Presidential Election are what they are.

I'm seeing someone on Twitter say #4 could be Jeffrey Clark. #5 Ken Chesebro (name I haven't heard before) and 6 Boris Epshteyn.

2 to be exact. Not part of the Justice system. Impeachment is a political action to remove a corrupt official.

Looks like this wouldn't be double jeopardy, according to this 2000 Justice dept memo

We conclude that the Constitution permits a former president to be criminally
prosecuted for the same offenses for which he was impeached by the House and
acquitted by the Senate while in office.

First of all, he lied about losing, setting his followers up to believe anything he said.

So he claimed the election was stolen. Lying is legal, but he needed to animate his gullible following for what came next.

He went to work on several attempts to steal the electoral votes of some states. He pressured state officials to falsify the vote totals.

That didn't work, so the next step was the Eastman plan. Raise a false set of electors who were not actually elected, then present them to congress. The 'President of the Senate' would then announce that there were conflicting sets of electors and throw the matter back to the respective statehouses, where the legislatures could choose the fake set. Jeffrey Clark had been tapped to send letters from the DOJ urging the states toss out the votes and name their own electors and Trump attempted to appoint him acting Attorney General for this purpose.

That wasn't quite working out, so the plan was to just have the President of the Senate (Mike Pence) accept the fake electors outright. NOTE: there was no trouble getting volunteers to act as fake electors, and they seem to have signed all the fraudulent documents without any compunction.

Of course, Mike Pence was asked directly to accept the fake electors, and he was reluctant to agree. Trump amped up the pressure and called a meeting at the white house with many people all there to pressure Pence to do his part! Pence was pushing back, and he would not say for certain he would go along with it.

Trump says he hopes Pence ‘comes through’ while he rallies for Georgia senators | Jan 4

Finally, on the fateful day Trump says to the crowd at the ellipse: If Pence 'does the right thing, we win' | Jan 6

People are gonna think you’re stupid’: Trump warned Pence not to ‘wimp out’ before Jan. 6

It became evident that Pence would not go against the Constitution, and Trump told his followers that via tweet.

Trump's Tweet About Pence Seen as Critical Moment During Riot

The crowd started to chant "Hang Mike Pence!". They stormed the capital.

Chuck Grassley had already been prepared to accept the fake electors in Pence's place, if Pence could be driven out of the building.

Trump suggests Pence to blame for Jan. 6 violence

“Had he sent the votes back to the legislatures, they wouldn’t have had a problem with Jan. 6, so in many ways you can blame him for Jan. 6,”
Donald J. Trump

The judge appointed to Trump's case is Judge Tanya Chutkan. She's an Obama appointee, and known to be one of thee toughest sentencers in D.C. She regularly sentenced 1/6 terrorists to max or close to max time in prison

Obama has to be laughing his butt off right now
