If Trump isn’t the nominee he will sabotage the candidate who is. As he’s all about himself and very vindictive.

If Trump were not to get the nomination he would for sure contest it and say the election was rigged against him by the establishment.

Trump got the second highest votes in the history of the US. Own worst enemy? He does very well against the leftist mob with all their media outlets.

That’s how many hated Hillary and taken in by his bs. It won’t happen a second time.

Who came up with a loyalty pledge???
That is some left over stunt from high school.

No one should sign a pledge!

Idiocy! hapless repubs at work accomplishing nothing.

He demands loyalty - as he memorably told Comey - but he doesn't offer it.

Very one-sided.

Most presidential elections break records for "highest votes" because the population of the USA continues to grow year after year, thus more votes every 4 year election cycle. It's not a huge feat at all.

The real reason why Trump will not debate is because he knows this time around, he will be skewered by his opponents. The first time, he was an unknown quantity who managed to grasp the discontent, not just of the party, but of the country. Then he won on that discontent. But now the country have a pretty good idea of what kind of person he really is. I have always said that no one win by the base but by the base and the middle, and right now, the middle is soured with Trump. This time, his political rivals will have a better idea of how to deal with him whether it is just one debate or more.

The key for Trump to win the middle, or just enough of the middle, by somehow the economy and Biden's corruption are just as disgusting as how the country was tired of the Clintons. Enough of the middle will hold their bile and go with Trump's policies rather than his personality.
But Trump is the first politician with a personality big enough to completely overshadow a party, so it doesn't matter what "should" be, because Trump is unlike anyone else.

When Trump debates, he's very direct, irreverent and aggressive, and that's why I don't think anyone would have a chance of "skewering" him.

He's too aggressive for his opponents, and they don't have balls (or maybe they just don't have the voice, because Trump's got a great voice for debates) to talk over him.

Plus they're scared of losing Trump's supporters, and I think that would apply especially to DeSantis because he's campaigning on similar ideals and messages to Trump's base.

I just don't see anyone testing Trump at all in the debates if he was there.... plus I've got a list of 135 Presidential achievements that Trump can brag about (not that he'd need to, since he mostly attacks people for their faults in debates).

He won't debate and he won't sign it and he shouldn't. He figured out early on that he stands out by being different. He's smart.

Has the GOP been loyal to him? Even a little? Nope. Not since 2015 when he came down that escalator.

Why should he sign some meaningless piece of theatrical fluff signaling a loyalty to a group that the group themselves does not possess?

Second highest doesn't win you the White House. That goes to the guy who got the highest in the history of the U.S. Second highest is losing.
