I think it is great to have a President that may be able to make change in this country. I'm white and do not feel threatend that we will have a black president, I think it is about time we have one and I feel that Obama is a good choice. I would have considered Hillary, but I do not trust her and McCain is just more of Bush.

I kinda feel the same. Nobody's representing anything. Just whatever sounds good at the moment.

Including "my supposed candidate" McCain.

Large segments of all parties are saying the exact same thing- choose between a rock and a hard place- how is that a choice? Even hearing a greater sentiment of ignoring november altogether, work on 2012 now. Coincidence? I think not!

They are voting for him because he is black. It has nothing to do with anyone suddenly becoming informed about anything. Blacks vote as a block. They vote for who promises the most. (Democrats) Blacks have been voting for Democrats for years, yet there is still a large portion of the population, living in urban ghettos by fault of no one but themselves. Yet as long as some one tells them it is Whitey's fault and personal responsibilty does not apply to them, they wil continue to vote for Democrats. Black or white.

Remarkable how quickly the Japanese community got back on there feet after they were literally stripped of all of there belongings and forced into camps for nearly five years. They started from scratch, and sixty years later, do better than most white folks. It has been over 150 years since slavery ended and over 40 years since the passing of the Civil Rights Act. When does it stop being everyone else's fault?

Corrected title: Does an aware black America threaten you?

There is no threat to fear. Black folks are getting hit with political tripe, not information. The net increase is in propoganda and false hope, not awareness. They have been liking it that way for a long time, assuming that anything from white America is anti-black and that non-blacks will not be truthful with blacks. You're still playing the race card, and it doesn't fly in real life.

Do you actually believe that Bill Cosby is wrong when he encourages blacks to be more responsible, work hard, build a life with the tools that made America great, to stop whining and stop leaning on government to solve your problems? According to your statement above, you do.

I feel sorry for the revenge mentality, because you're going to be even more angry than you are now, when your utopian dreams don't 'get real.' Here's your sign, for trusting a politician. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I would look forward to black america getting its act together and not acting like the BET/MTV stereotypes, and look forward to no more special treatment to any ethnic group. A level playing field for all regardless of skin pigmentation.
A black man from humble beginings as Obama supposedly had becoming President should prove that all quota systems are not needed.

There have been some excellent comments on this thread.

I just want to add my 2 cents worth--First thing is what whites talk about at the dinner table. Well, I think we talk about the same things anyone else does. Work, school, sports, the news, weather, friends--but we don't sit there and talk about black people. From having read some of the posts (not just on this thread) a lot of black people have perception problems that they need to change. They need to work on their attitudes that are racist towards white people and their focus on being victims.

In other words, most white people are not against them, they are for them.
If blacks continue to think of themselves as victims, they will never get anywhere.

Another thing--I (and every other white person I know) am not feeling guilty about anything that happened to blacks a long time ago. I never owned slaves, neither did anyone in the history of my family -- one side of my family was suffering in another part of the world and came here as immigrants.

This ongoing election process has been an eye opener for me: Most whites are FOR blacks and are happy to see them get an education and succeed but what I have learned from this election is that black people seem to hate us. It seems that black people go to church and learn to hate. I never knew that!!!! Most people go to church to learn about God and how to live a good life. No church I have ever gone to has talked about politics or promoted hatred.

I hope that if Obama is elected he will bring us together. I hope he can set a good example for black kids and --maybe it's too much to wish for, I hope that he can bring an end to that vicious kind of preaching that apparently goes on in the black churches. How does that kind of negativity help anyone?

The only issue with your statement, and I agree with most of it! Is...after 20 years of voluntarily immersing himself in a church filled with hatred toward white people, how in the world can we think he's anything but fully enrolled in that mentality?

Unless of course, he attended all those years in the name of researching hatred so he can defeat it as president.
