So "late stage capitalism" = socialism??? Because the USA has never been more socialist than it is today.

socialism - a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
- a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

We were more socialist when GM was "Government Motors" with the bailout resulting in government ownership than we are today. Or going further back to when the railroads were nationalized 1917-1920.

I said "more socialist". I didn't say we are a full blown communist country (yet).

As it pertains to the railroads, infrastructure is not an example of socialism. Government does have it's purpose. Corporations and businesses cannot do everything all on their own.

Oh gotta love that ol “freedom” line.

A lot of the world is “free”, not just us.

Honestly, that's like saying oxygen is suffocating America. Capitalism built America and gave us the standard of living we take for granted.

Capitalism gave us the standard of living that other people still risk their lives to come here and take a shot at.

To say that capitalism is suffocating America is like saying the forest is suffocating the trees.

If you want to say that some perversion of capitalism is causing a problem, then explain what you mean.

Agreed.

What is a better system though ? Or how can we better manage what we have, to eliminate, or keep in check, corporatism, crony capitalism ?

Our standard of living comes from historic luck and our military power. Centuries of free labor helped and colonialism helped as well.

Capitalism is actually fine, but needs to be smartly controlled. Clamping down with the over marketization free for all of the housing market would be a good start. Your healthy reit investments doesn’t trump crushing housing affordability for the masses. And definitely not for foreign investors.

No, the federal government is suffocating America. It needs to be defunded immediately.
