CIA bribed investigators to change their story from lab leak to zoonotic origins.
There is a high likelihood that the virus originated in Fort Detrick, MD and was transported to Wuhan. Whether the release was accidental or intentional is unknown. If the CIA was involved, I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentionally released in China.

Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) revealed new allegations that Dr. Fauci went to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Headquarters to “influence” its COVID-19 origins investigation. This revelation comes on the heels of recently acquired whistleblower testimony alleging that the CIA potentially skewed its COVID-19 origins review by offering six analysts significant financial incentives to conclude that the result of its investigation was inconclusive. Dr. Fauci’s questionable presence at the CIA, coupled with recently uncovered evidence that he, Dr. Fauci, “prompted” the drafting of “Proximal Origin” — the infamous paper that was used to attempt to “disprove” the lab leak theory — lends credence to heightened concerns about the promotion of a false COVID-19 origins narrative by multiple federal government agencies.

So we can stop blaming China and blame ourselves instead?
Both China and the USA share blame for the virus. It's obvious to me why no officials wanted to point the finger at China and scapegoat - because China had dirt on their involvement. Thick as thieves.
The US has been performing Gain of Function research at Fort Detrick and other US installations for decades and have been pretty open about it. They had 60 Minutes stories about it back in the 1980s.
The narrative, which was accepted at the time, was that we needed to develop dangerous pathogens in order to develop effective countermeasures, as these pathogens or similar pathogens could be used against us on the battlefield or at home.
By knowing what was possible and developing appropriate countermeasures, we had a better chance of dealing with advanced pathogens in time of war.
It's likely we were performing SARS-CoV GoF research. And it's likely Obama ordered that research moved from the US to remote locations following those two high-profile accidents. I don't think for a minute Fauci acted on his own.
If so, where's the crime? If Fauci was following orders, there is no crime. It would be a crime to lie to Congress, and it could be that's all he's actually guilty of.
Note that I think Fauci's a lying POS and have no love for him.
