Missiles were believed to be fired from Yemen headed to Israel by an Iranian-backed group. Really starting to heat up over there now.

Yemen to Israel? Unlikely. That's over 1,000 miles to the most southern tip of Israel.

I mean, not unless Iran or China is supplying the big stuff (long-range cruise missiles), which would be a major escalation.

Apparently, they WERE a type of cruise missile.

I doubt those missiles or the drones have the required range to reach Israel and this was more a show of capability.

Our destroyers don't carry enough SM2s to deal with enemy cruise missiles and drones in any numbers. The SM2 was originally for anti-aircraft use and is expensive as hell.

In this press briefing, it was stated that they were land attack cruise missiles brought down by the Destroyer USS Carney.

Show of capability is sometimes OK. This is one of those times. IMO.

So, where did Yemen get them?

And who in Yemen authorized launching them at Israel?

I saw that. That doesn't mean they have the range or accuracy to deal with targets 1,000+ miles away. It's good they were successful, but using the navy to do that is unsustainable. That's not what the navy is for.

As long as it doesn't become a pattern. We cannot afford to let a destroyer fire it's load at ground-to-ground targets. Then the destroyer becomes vulnerable.
