They are not allowed to leave because Egypt (and who can blame them) has closed their border crossing, and has only allowed a tiny bit of opening to give humanitarian relief trucks a path in. No one living in Gaza can come out through that crossing. And Israel is also not allowing people from Gaza to flood out into Israel.
HAMAS is not holding them hostage. The neighboring countries don't want a flood of helpless refugees flooding into their country so they've closed the borders.
Do you make a distinction if there is only 1 hostage? 10? 100?...
There’s not 500. No one knows the exact number but the IDF says 230 total and not all are Americans.
