You honestly think it's relevant that a older male politician mixes up two young female pop stars?

Do you think that most male politicians over 65 would never make this mistake? And, more importantly, could you say how it's relevant to any president, ever?

I have no idea about either of them, apart from their names. as I stopped listening to pop music long ago. However, I don't think that would in any way reflect on my intelligence or professional competence.
This wasn't some Q&A where a Reporter out of the blue asks Biden what he thinks about Taylor Swift.

It's relevant because Biden made it relevant by trying to incorporate her into his speech.

Swift & Spears probably use the same hair products. I can see how that would confuse him.

Well, there was also the abrupt "turkey trot" out of there when he had to "go".

IMHO, the issue isn't that an 81 year old man isn't "hip". It's that he tries to look hip, and fails.

He's always trying to put on a fake front. And he's not good at it.

He's not genuine.

Actually the “older” men in my family had no clue who Taylor Swift was even when they kept showing her at the Kansas City football games. The referrals to her songs in the announcers’ commentaries went right over their heads.

They were mostly irritated that the cameras didn’t stay on the field instead of straying to the box where Swift was cheering on Travis Kelce.

That said, I am an Independent and I am not happy that either Biden or Trump are running. This is not what the country needs now and most polls agree. Yes, I think they are both too old going forward for the high level physical stamina and mental abilities needed for the Presidency in this environment. I say that as an older person myself so just with acknowledgement not discrimination.

Of course there should not be a big deal made out of this flub but the problem lies in that Biden was trying to be hip, with it and relevant but it only comes off as pandering.

He should stick to what he knows when he goes off script but talking about Judy Garland and Dinah Shore would only show us how old he is.

Sounds very much like an everyday gaffe that anyone could make.

My 30 year old colleague doesn't know who Alanis Morrissette or Eddie Vedder are. Seriously, we had this conversation a couple weeks ago.

Not that surprising of a mistake to make, in general. Just high profile since it was the US President.

Frankly, who cares about Taylor or Britney? Seems pretty easy to mix them up.
