He's not going for unity, he's seeking to gather those on the right, in yet another format.

This isn't an attempt to find a level of truths that we all can agree on, or the vast majority, this is yet again another attempt to "unite the right".

My personal opinion is that truly, there can be no all-encompassing "unity" any longer in America, the way it used to be even 20 years ago.
Because Democratic party ( and what it represents) substantially changed; now it's uniting forces under one umbrella, that really shouldn't even be in one and the same party.
May be same can be said about Republicans, but their internal differences are not as great as what I see among the Democrats ( comparing with what their party used to be,) so my guess is, MacGregor is calling for unity of all the forces that still can be united - the "Old School" Democrats, the fraction that can set aside their differences with Republicans in the face of present danger that America is facing.
But of course there can be no unity between the "New Democrats" and conservatives.
This is obviously unrealistic.
